What else might we like if we love Rose?

Hi everyone.

We love Rose but I'm slightly put off by its popularity as a middle name.

We'd like something:

Shortish - we like one and two syllable names as we have a very long surname

That works in England and France with minimal pronunciation problems (although don't mind having to do a bit of initial explaining)

Also preferably no As or Is as our first DC's name begins with A and our surname begins with I. I wouldn't be dead set against a name with one of these letters if I loved it but I can't imagine picking one with the same letter as I'm not really fussed on alliterative names or matching letters for siblings.

Thank you in advance.

Thank you. Romy stands out as one that particularly fits the bill and will add that to our shortlist. I must like Ro- names as I also like Romilly but not as much. Hélène will likely be a middle name actually!

I wouldn't let the popularity of Rose as a middle name put you off if you love it! It is quite different as a middle name compared to having as a first name I would say.

One of my children has May for a middle name, and the other has Rose as a middle name. Both apparently "too common" according to some but also both were for family reasons as many people in the family have either one or the other! So i figured why not, they're popular because they're nice!

I think Rose as a first name sounds sophisticated. Go for it if you like it. Plus I'm a teacher and have only ever taught 1 or 2 in 10 years

Second Rosa

I think Rose, May and Grace are all popular as middle names but much less so as first names - and all are lovely, a bit like Louise for my generation. I'd go with Rose. I would have suggested Alice but for the no "A"s.

I teach and only know one Rose as a friend of my dds. Beautiful name. Think about it as a first name.

fdwthuj · 20/10/2024 18:37

Rose as a first name is not that common. Only around 880 a year England and Wales. If you like it, use it

Catandsquirrel · 20/10/2024 18:37

I think Rose on its own is simple and beautiful and quite unusual as a first name

Would Rosemary be too long?

Love Rose! I know it’s very popular as a middle name but that wouldn’t put me off as it seems much less common as a first name for some reason.

Also like Romy. And the suggestions of Emma and Zara.
