Double barrel names

I'm in my third trimester and have decided on Rodrick for a boy and Rhonda for a girl. I want the name to be double barreled with the next name beginning with J if that makes sense. Does anyone have any suggestions

Both gorgeous suggestions thank you

Do you mean that the boy would be called Roderick-James Smith? Or Roderick James Smith-Jones with James being the middle name?

Roderick-James Smith is a LOT. Are you planning to use Roderick-James day-to-day? 4 syllables and two names?

Rodrick-James Smith. So two first names and one last name. I wouldn't refer to him as Rodrick-James tho just RJ.

You can call him/her RJ without double barrelling first names. Could be an abbreviation for a first and middle name. Don't saddle a child with a full name of Roderick-James for the rest of his life.

I do get where you're coming from but all my angel babies have a double barreled name so I want to keep that tradition going

Is there a reason you've chosen the spelling "Rodrick"? If not then save your child a lifetime of hassle by spelling it correctly - Roderick.

Topseyt123 · 19/10/2024 17:41

Would the name really be used that way? Would your child really want to introduce himself as Roderick-James, rather than Roderick, Rod, Roddy, Rick etc.

Roderick-James is a mouthful and could lead to a lifetime of explanations. I do like both names but I wouldn't bother with the hyphen. He would be Roderick James and would be called Roderick or any of its acceptable diminutives.

I wouldn't spell it Rodrick. That just looks like a mistake to me and would again lead to a lifetime of unnecessary explaining.

I always thought Roderick and Rodrick were two different names that may be because of my speech issues lol

Edited

It doesn't bother me what he shortens it to as long as on his birth certificate it's Rodrick-J. Also in terms of the spelling I always thought Roderick and Rodrick were two different names.

Please don’t jump on the ‘unique’ spelling and double barrelled name trend.

It’s not fair on the child who has to constantly correct people —who are spelling it correctly— and give them the ‘wrong’ spelling.

They’ll change it as soon as they’re 18 anyway.

I agree with others suggesting to make them middle names. Double barrelled first and surnames is a trend that is going to age poorly I think. People already joke now that double barrelled surnames are common, when they were once the reserve of wealthy families.

DniHnly · 24/10/2024 05:43

Double barrelled names are so tacky. Stick with first and middle name. It's so unnecessary.

StampOnTheGround · 24/10/2024 06:30

Please don't do a double barrelled name, it doesn't come across great.

I like your name choices, but I'd suggest making the J name the middle name instead.

GoodVibesHere · 24/10/2024 06:50

I think Rhonda is awful, sorry.

I too thought Rodrick and Roderick were two different names, same as you OP.

DniHnly · 24/10/2024 09:16

I also think Rhonda is awful. Sorry OP. Sounds like a car name or a porn name.

Rhona or Rianne is better.
