Which one would you pick? And why?

Sofia Matilde
Lucia Matilde
Alba Matilde
Vida Matilde

To go with brother Hugo Jacob.

Thank you 😊

Alba as it is 2 syllables and Vida sounds strange to me as a name.

Moreteaandchocolate · 07/10/2024 21:34

Sofia is my favourite if you don’t mind it’s popularity.

Lucia (I like the Loo- SEE-a pronunciation) would be my second choice, if you don’t mind the different pronunciations.

Alba and Vida are also nice - unusual but familiar and simple 2 syllable names.

Good luck choosing!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 07/10/2024 22:43

Sofia - it’s incredibly international and popular like Hugo so would be my pick. It’ll be nice for them to both be able to find junk with their name on it in shops and not to have to worry about misspelling or mispronunciation (well Sofia might occasionally get Sophia in the UK but the international spelling is still well used here too).

holamuchgusto · 07/10/2024 23:11

@IamnotwhouthinkIam I really love your reply, thank you. I hadn't thought of it like that actually. The area we will be living in Spain, Sofia is 83rd on the list. So I wouldn't say that's crazy popular either. Sofia Matilde

Hugo Jacob isn’t very Spanish, are you looking for a Spanish name because you are moving there, or do you have Spanish family connections?

Vida would be pronounced “Beeda”, are you Ok with that?

I like Alba best.

purpleme12 · 07/10/2024 23:22

I like Alba actually

Although it does sound slightly better the Spanish pronunciation

SharpLily · 07/10/2024 23:23

Alba is a bit old fashioned. It depends where you live really - some of these names are likely to be mispronounced and mis-spelt in the UK.

Nobody is going to mis-spell Alba in Scotland! (Might get you mistaken for a rampant Nationalist though)

We live in Spain, and Alba, Lucia and Sofia are very popular in our area. But they are all lovely names! Sofia is my favourite.

Nina Maria
Claudia maria

Vida would come across as very alternative and hippyish in Spain. So a completely different vibe to Sofia and Lucia which are very common or Alba which is more traditional. I like Vida best out of your options, though! I also like Luz a lot or Llum if you're in Catalonia. I'm curious about the spelling of Matilde, is that the French spelling? It's certainly not Spanish. Is there a particular reason for that?

shoopshoopdedoo · 08/10/2024 06:15

Sofia Matilde is lovely and I agree with PP that it fit’s well with your son’s name. I like Alba as well. Less keen on Lucia (I think it looks nice written down, but doesn’t sound nice in an English accent at least) and Vida.

holamuchgusto · 08/10/2024 09:25

@Smittenkitchen Matilde is the Spanish spelling. Ive checked the popularity charts and that is the spelling on there. So I'm not sure how you can say it's not?

I love Alba and Vida. Sofia is a good choice too.

Not keen on Lucia.

sadeightiesthrowback · 08/10/2024 18:53

I like Sophia Matilde and Vida Matilde.
Haven't heard the name Vida, meaning 'Life" in a long time, but that's part of the charm I think.

Hmm yeah fair enough. I've never heard it in Spain but I am in Catalonia and in Catalan it would be Matilda so that's maybe why.

Valkyrie3 · 08/10/2024 22:43

The French spelling is Mathilde @Smittenkitchen

Smittenkitchen · 09/10/2024 07:26

Ah yes.
OP, just be aware, if you're not already, that the Spanish pronunciation will be Matild-eh.

SharpLily · 09/10/2024 09:43

Yep, also in Spain and I can't see how it would be Matilde. It's Matilda here too and I'm not in Catalonia.

Elektra1 · 09/10/2024 09:46

I think Matilda can be spelt Matilda or Matilde in Spanish. In Spanish the "e" would be enunciated as a separate syllable in the same way as the "a" is, so said out loud the name would be the same.

Smittenkitchen · 09/10/2024 20:21

Also, no-one has middle names in Spain. But on you go! 😅
