Longer name for Leni

Husband and I love Leni for DD due early next year but I’d like to give her a longer name on BC as I know it’s a bit nicknamey and she may want to be known as something else when older. So far we’ve come up with
Elena - probably go with this if we don’t find anything else
Helena- we don’t really like this
Selena - husband doesn’t like this

Are we missing any other options that could work ?

I've got a relative called Lenka, Leni for short

That's absolutely lovely 😍

StressedQueen · 07/10/2024 21:02

Does Eleni work if not Elena?

For what it's worth, I think Leni is lovely and fine on its own although Elena is gorgeous and Elena nickname Leni would be so pretty.

This. If it's a name in it's own right, it's not a nickname.

Yeah this. And she will have to go through life correcting people on her name, no not ......, just leni etc

BatsInSpring · 07/10/2024 21:05

I am all for the longer name with a short nickname option. However, if you actually want to call her Leni, call her Leni.
If you call her Elinor, with the nn Leno, you might be upset when people call her Ellie. If you really want a longer name then I think it HAS to start Len to try to avoid different nicknames emerging.
So Lenora/Lenore which are lovely. Pp suggested Lenka which is gorgeous!

sadeightiesthrowback · 07/10/2024 21:07

Probably been suggested a hundred times over but my first thought was Eleanor.

SheilaFentiman · 07/10/2024 21:07

Agree - the only way to guarantee she is Leni is to call her that. Otherwise she might be Ellie (Elena, Eleanor etc) Arlie (Arlene) Val (Valentina) or Lee (Leonara Leoni etc) by her own choosing once she is at school.

PurpleChrayn · 07/10/2024 21:07

Helen.

By the way is it Len-ee or Lean-ee that you want as the pronunciation?

ohmysense · 07/10/2024 21:14

Leontia

My dd is named Helena. We called her Leni as a nick name. She's always hated it. She doesn't like Helena either. She got to 13 and picked a new name. She uses that at school now. 🤷‍♂️ I hope your dd likes whatever you decide on. We can only do our best. 🙄😆

I know a Leni - and she’s chief exec of a think tank, so don’t think it’s too much of a nickname and will hold her back professionally - it’s a great name on its own!

I wanted Leni for a girl, as a nod to my mum Lenore.

The longer name would have been Valentina.

Was coming on to say Leni for Valentina.

I loved this combination too but we wanted a French or English name.

YeahNoIDontThinkSo · 08/10/2024 12:58

Valentina is nice.

chocolaterevels · 08/10/2024 19:48
