For a middle name please 🙏🏻 it's a honour name but it really doesn't go with the other names we have picked and would make the name really too long as a middle name, thank you 😊

Well it means 'gift of God' so maybe Theodora, Dora, Tia ?

Moreteaandchocolate · 30/09/2024 05:26

Maybe Thea or Dora?

Dorothy is one of my two middle names and I have a long first name as well! My married surname is long too! I love it, but it can sometimes be a problem filling in forms that require one's full name in a small space.

Judy - as in Judy Garland (thinking laterally)

Kindly meant I promise, I don't think it's an honour name unless it's a) the actual name of a person you wish to honour or b) the nickname that person went by. I also think a middle name doesn't need to flow with the daily used name, they're extremely rarely used together. So I would use Dorothy after your special person. Or Dolly etc if that's what she was/is known as.

Agree with this.
Long is neither here nor there. Plus it's not that long anyway. It's the name you want. Use it .

If it's an honour name the person's name or nickname should be used. I don't think honour names have to 'go' and they are much more interesting than filler middle names.

Agree with this. But then we just took the plunge and went full throttle with Karen - my mum's name. 😂 We really don't care about middle names though. We'd rather see how happy the family members are when we tell them than pick something pretty with no link. It's not an approach for everyone though! 😂 We did however think very hard about a first name, how it sounded with our surname, considering nicknames and researching its meaning in different languages to make sure there was nothing which would put us off.

Dorothy is a lovely middle name. She could do a lot worse.

This. Dorothy is lovely and is only 7 characters. I don't like Thea or Dorothea.

Lolatusernamesuggestions · 30/09/2024 17:09

I would have loved the name Dorothea for myself. Dot, Dottie, Dora are nice. Obsessed with the name Dorothy too.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 30/09/2024 18:10

Is the full name less than 26 letters? If it is then it should be okay on pretty much every form I think. I guess you could use Dotty or Dory instead - but unless your relative was known by the nn, it’s not really honouring them imo.

LemonDropsXx · 30/09/2024 19:29

Hey. It's a compromise really, I say honour name but the person is still alive, not passed, I tried to quote the lady who had Karen as a name, as my mum did pass away 18 months ago and our other daughter we named 'Wren' as her middle name for my mum. I get people say that it's not really her 'name' unless it's her but it is for me. Dorothy is my husbands mums name and I really don't love her so I'm trying to be respectful and find a name that 'honours' her for him, when she hasn't passed away or anything, it's hard for me. I don't really want to use the full name when I didn't for my mum. Sorry this message turned out really long 😂 they call her 'Dolly' but that sounds childish to me.... I love Thea though, maybe I could use that.

LemonDropsXx · 30/09/2024 19:32

Also. For someone above, unfortunately it would be more than that amount of letters as my husband is also from a different culture and our children all have middle names from that culture also as a family thing, so adding 'Dorothy' in would make it super long x

Honestly no one uses anything apart from first name and surname.
So it really doesn't matter what the middle names are.

We used Dottie in place of Dorothy as an honour middle name.
