What do you think of the name Prunella (with nickname Pru or Nella)?

Is it usable, or too closely connected to Prunella Scales. What do you think?
Many thanks
Cecy

I like it, but I do prefer Prudence.

Janni · 19/04/2008 19:45

Nell is OK

Woudn't consider your other options.

dizzydixies · 19/04/2008 19:49

not quite to my taste but I can somehow see the attraction

prudence is slightly better

if you like nell what about penelope?
that gives the option of penny too

LaComtesse · 19/04/2008 19:51

Eleanor can also be shortened to Nell or why not just call her Nell?

expatinscotland · 19/04/2008 19:52

What do I think?

Well, you asked.

It's beyond awful.

I like Prudence, Eleanor, Fenella more. Think Nell is a fab nn.

LaComtesse · 19/04/2008 20:01

Fenella is another oldie name. Probably due back in fashion anytime now.

noddyholder · 19/04/2008 20:05

I like it very much Esp nelly as I had a lovely friend at college called nelly and she was adorable

Blandmum · 19/04/2008 20:07

Sorry, I'm old enough to remember the song 'Nelly the elephant' on 2 way family favorites

pania · 20/04/2008 00:30

Automatically think of Prunella Scales (as Sybil Fawlty).

And even if she didn't exist would think of prunes.

We had several Prudences at school - all called Prue.

I do think Fenella is rather pretty.

lilolilmanchester · 20/04/2008 00:33

pretty name, but smacks of parents trying to do something different rather than choosing a name they really like. But your shout at the end of the day ahd stuff anyone who doesn't like your choice IMHO

chipmonkey · 20/04/2008 01:12

Sorry, makes me think of constipated children eating strained prunes. But that may be just my upbringing.

AnotherFineMess · 20/04/2008 01:16

Prunella? That would definitely corroborate Cod's bacon aisle theory

thornrose · 20/04/2008 01:17

totally unhelpful but my lovely nana was named Nelly and she hated it with a vengeance. She always told the story of asking a celebrity (can't remember who!) for an autograph, when he asked who to address it to she lied about her name, she was too ashamed to say Nelly, bless.

branflake81 · 20/04/2008 07:23

Don't like it. sounds like an old, very strict and uptight woman on the WI who has a severe addiction to dusting the piano.

PosieParker · 20/04/2008 07:28

I prefer Prudence then you can get Pru, if yu love Prunella then go for it but do be prepared for 'oh, like Prunella Scales' the whole time.

cyteen · 20/04/2008 11:19

Prunella just says 'prunes' to me. Prudence is better if you must have a Pru name, or how about Drusilla (Buffy fan alert)?

Pinkchampagne · 20/04/2008 11:20

Don't like it at all, sorry.

ScoobyDoo · 20/04/2008 11:22

Sorry i don't like it at all.

Nbg · 20/04/2008 11:23

Not so sure about Prunella but I love Pruedence.

Sidge · 20/04/2008 12:07

Sorry I think it's awful.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/04/2008 12:07

Prudence is nice, but not Prunella I fear.

ProfessorGrammaticus · 20/04/2008 12:09

Prunes. Prunella Scales. Don't "get" anything else from the name at all, sorry
