Is this first name too similar to our last name?

I have name changed for this so that I can mention our last name.

It is Reece.

I love the name Rosa.

DH also loved it.

However, we are worried that "Rosa Reece" sounds silly and she will be teased.

What is the MN consensus on this one?

Heated - lol at Jonathan Ross

I like it. It sounds like a 50s movie starlet's name.

robinpud · 19/04/2008 13:51

As long as she can say it she'll be ok but if she should have any trouble with her rs she'll be stuffed.

vicsta · 19/04/2008 14:46

Rosaries was the first thing I thought too, sorry. Shame, such a pretty name

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 19/04/2008 14:53

The 2 names do sound lovely together I wuite like them BUT I personally wouldn't put them together because they do sound like rosaries.
We had the same problem when naming dd on the day we went to register her my um called in the morning and asked if I had realised that her first and middle name together read lik a totally different single name rather than 2 so we mchanged the spelling in that instance.

VictorianSqualor · 19/04/2008 14:55

I like it, a lot.
I think it's very pretty.
I agree with heated as well though, if you called her rosamund or rosemary/roaslind/rosaria any name beginning with rose/a then you could always call her rosa and when surname was used it would be the only tme her full name was used.

artichokes · 19/04/2008 20:13

I also like illiterative names. Its lovely.

fym · 19/04/2008 20:16

I'd go for a long version (probably rosalind) that will shorten BUT I like to do that anyway!!!!

itsahardknocklife · 19/04/2008 20:19

I like the name Rosa, but I wouln't use it if I had your surname. I think she would get called silly names at school, like RollsRoyce and Rosaries that have already been mentioned. It might drive her mad.

mamabutters · 19/04/2008 20:28

Makes me think of Rose Royce (70s funk band, sung Carwash)

pootleflump · 19/04/2008 20:31

No, don't like them together sorry.

snowleopard · 19/04/2008 20:35

I like it a lot, sounds quite glamorous to me!

Our DS has a name that, in its shortened version, is similar to his surname - each name has 2 syllables and the 2nd syllable is the same. But it sounds nice and no one has ever remarked on it. This kind of thing can work well - it depends on the name.

bluenosesaint · 19/04/2008 20:37

I like it

janeite · 19/04/2008 20:44

A no from me sorry.

NutterlyUts · 19/04/2008 20:56

She'll only have the surname for a fraction of her life right? Who cares if its not a perfect combination If you love it, use it

Makingdo · 19/04/2008 20:59

devonsmummy · 19/04/2008 21:38

made me think of the group Rose Royce too.....sorry!!
I do like the name Rosa though

WallOfSilence · 19/04/2008 21:52

I know a Peter Peterson, a Cormac Mc Cormac & a John Johnston....all in the same village!!!

wolveschick · 19/04/2008 22:00

I love alliterative names too and am guilty twice over with my little M and Ms as we call them but it did make me think instantly of Rolls Royce and then Rose Royce but then again I am a fan of Terry Wogan and often think of a TOG name by instinct (Isabel on a bike) (Heidi Vodka) etc

TheFallenMadonna · 19/04/2008 22:03

Oh I like it.

I didn't think of rosaries, and I'm Catholic

ElmaH · 19/04/2008 22:14

I think if you love it, go for it. I love it. Sounds like a star. You can tell from everyone's answers it's not ridiculous...

Lio · 19/04/2008 22:15

I thought of rosaries. Sorry, Rosa is such a pretty name but in your position I wouldn't do it.

Eddas · 19/04/2008 22:21

i like it

i think a lot of names sound funny when said together. mine does with my surname and maiden name unless you say it slowly and with care to seperate them IYSWIM, FYI my first name is Nicola, i think it's the'a' at the end which makes it roll into one.

But I do like Rosa Reece

TinkerbellesMum · 19/04/2008 23:18

robinpud I agree, I always thought Jonathon Ross's parents were inconsiderate. They could have used his mother's name or something so he could say it

Eddas · 20/04/2008 07:12

coz they'dve known when he was born he wouldn't be able to say his r's he must've choosen his stage name and liked the fact he couldn't say it properly. Probably got him notice

seeker · 20/04/2008 07:17

I loved Constance, but we didn't go for it for dd because if she chose to use her dad's name she'd be Connie Condon! I think Rosa Reece is a bit the same (only not as bad) - I wouldn't if I were you.
