Hi all

Does anyone have any suggestions for a boys name that might lend itself to the nickname Ibby? Even if it’s a bit of a stretch!

Thanks!!

I actually quite like Ibby as a stand alone name, though maybe as an adult it’s better to have longer name to use. Iziah?

Same here! It's a common shortening where I work, I teach a few boys called Ibby.
Ibrahim is their full name.

Willoughby 😬

Catandsquirrel · 08/09/2024 08:34

Ibhar (one of King David's son's in the bible, don't know his full story)
Ivor or Ivan although I don't think Ibby will stick, the /I/ sound is different
Ibrahim
Ibzan was a biblical judge in Israel
Ibadat comes from Arabic, it pertains to prayer and devotion

Catandsquirrel · 08/09/2024 08:35

Isambard is cool!

maudelovesharold · 08/09/2024 08:39

Isaac (nn don’t have to relate precisely to the full name!)

FoxtrotOscarKindaDay · 08/09/2024 08:41

Gottlieb
Tiberius

Ignatius (stretch from Iggy)

Full go crazy and move to Glasgow - Ibrox

TheBlackCatWithTheWhiteSpot · 08/09/2024 08:44

Could you base the nickname off initials IB instead?

Ivan Benjamin or something like that?

(though Isambard) is a great suggestion!

Alongthepineconetrail · 08/09/2024 08:50

The Ibby I know is Ibrahim, the Muslim version of the name Abraham.

Kit89 · 08/09/2024 09:28

Could go for a stretch though OP if Libby is a nn for Elizabeth!

wickerlady · 08/09/2024 09:46

Yes, that's been said quite a few times upthread. I think that's the most popular usage.
