Both are nice but I lean towards Katie.
However, the final choice would depend upon which went best with your surname.

HettyCletter · 07/09/2024 18:58

I prefer Lucy - it’s more of a standalone name whereas, to me, Katie is more of a nickname.

Sleepnplay · 07/09/2024 18:59

I really like both, but voted for Katie as you hear it less these days

Lisbeth50 · 07/09/2024 18:59

Lucy

Normallynumb · 07/09/2024 19:00

Lucy

LeafHunter · 07/09/2024 19:01

Lucy.

katie is so popular and feels “young”

BobbyBiscuits · 07/09/2024 19:04

Katie as the full name is a little childish sounding. But if it's short for Katherine, Katrina, etc then it's cute. Those names can have lots of variations, like Kate, Kat, Katie etc but it's good to give them the choice rather than having Katie is the birth name.

sel2223 · 07/09/2024 19:08

Oooh tough one, I couldn't actually pick one. Like both equally.

GreenClockTower · 07/09/2024 19:09

This.

There's nothing intrinsically wrong with using this type of very well known and universally a acceptable nickname as a full name, I wouldn't because only having a fairly "sweet" pretty nickname without it being short for a name which isn't a pet form (Katherine, Katrina etc.) feels somehow like treating the baby as a forever child, a sweet, frivolous, adorable but not terribly important pet...

Also people will ask her throughout her life whether it's short for Katherine or Katerina, or if she's"really" called Kate or Katie etc...

spaceshooter · 07/09/2024 19:09

Strong dislike of both, sorry.

BatsInSpring · 07/09/2024 19:10

Lucie

sel2223 · 07/09/2024 19:19

Funny reading these replies, the only Katie's and Lucy's I know are adults 35/40+ - all professionals, in their field. I've never once thought they've got a cutesy name, or that they're a forever child. Nor have I ever felt compelled to ask them if 'that's their real name'.
Aren't people odd.

To me, they're both fairly classic, inoffensive names that will grow from baby through childhood into adulthood.

rainsofcastamere · 07/09/2024 19:25

I'm a Katie. I'm not cutesy in fact I'm the exact opposite. Majority of people other try an immediate family call me Kate. I'm 41.

I have never been asked this!

GoodVibesHere · 07/09/2024 19:33

Ooh I love both. Eek, I wouldn't know how to decide. I'd probably choose Katie, just because I have always adored that name. And then hope to another baby girl and call her Lucy Smile

MSLRT · 07/09/2024 19:36

Neither Both too common. Go for something original.

Tristar15 · 07/09/2024 19:38

Both were on my list but I ended up not using either! I think Lucy has the edge, it would likely be my first choice if I ever had another.

CookieMonster28 · 07/09/2024 19:38

Not my taste but I doubt my favourite names would be your choice either!

My dd is called Kate and I have only been asked this once. I simply said no.

No they won’t 😂

I know 4 Katie’s and have never asked them this!

Clearinguptheclutter · 07/09/2024 19:41

voted Lucy but like both

i prefer Katy to Katie and ideally as a shortening for Katherine

oObyeOo · 07/09/2024 19:42

We had Lucy and Kate on our list. We went for Kate in the end as it sounded less babyish than Katie…. People have called her Katie in the past. She’s 11 now and has always been good at putting people straight 😂… It happens less now she’s older which confirms to me that Katie is a childish name.

We’ve never come across another child Kate.

MSLRT · 07/09/2024 19:44

Camilla, Cassandra, Annalise, Felicity, Cecilia, Sylvie…. So many lovely names which are not so common.

CrazyCatsandIcecream · 07/09/2024 19:46

I hate Lucy, sorry op. I just think of juicy Lucy goosey, no idea why as most names do rhyme with other words! It also doesn't help with Lucy letby all over the news atm.
Kate I prefer to Katie.
