Daughter in hospital- heart condition

I’ve just had my baby boy last week, and on Friday, DD’s holiday club called up saying she felt her heart was funny and needed the dr! Staff at the holiday club said she was probably just needing attention after the new baby, which I feel awful about now because this was not the case!

We called 999 once home because she went very ashen, and was brought to resus! It turns out she has Ventricular Tachycardia, which was a very dangerous heart rhythm. Luckily IV meds brought her out of it but many people need to be defibrillated out of this 😞.

Atm, she’s on a cardio ward and her Dad is staying with her (we can’t bring baby into the ward, he is way too young). Since it’s the weekend, things have been slower, but she’s due a heart echo and MRI tomorrow.

The doctor said that these can sometimes be idiopathic, but said that in children it’s most likely caused by some genetic condition or cardiomyopathy.

my hearts’ broken in pieces. She’s only 10 and has her whole life ahead of her! I really hope this doesn’t affect her life drastically but does anybody else have experience on their child having this?

So sorry to hear you're going through this, incredibly distressing and so stressful given your recent new arrival (congratulations!)

I've no experience of this personally but wanted to highlight that you may wish to ask Mumsnet to move the thread as it is currently in Baby Names - you may get more responses elsewhere on the site.

So sorry to hear that you are going through this and wishing your little girl well. I am not sure if this helps give some info but I had VT as an adult caused by a medication. The important thing is whether the rhythm is sustained as in she remains permanently in that rhythm or is she is going in and out of it. Have the docs caught any more VT on their monitoring? It is likely that they will do an echocardiogram which will check for any structural abnormalities. This is pretty much a gold standard test and will show if there are any.
Good luck and fingers crossed for you. I hope that they are able to give reassurance soon.

Follow the advice of your Cardiologist team.
She is in the best of care and treatments often don't involve surgery.
Hoping that all will be well.
