Thoughts on Rosamund?

I love Rosamund. Don't mind nicknames.

Blarn · 28/11/2024 11:12

Personally I dislike the mund sound at the end but that's my problem. I considered Rosalind for dd2, I think the ind sounds nicer.

WrongSortOfPoster · 28/11/2024 11:22

I think Rosalind is prettier and doesn't run the risk of sounding like Rozzerman (like Rosamund Street in Corrie)
Both are nice though.
Not keen on Roseanne and Rosalie - they don't seem as classy.

Charlotte120221 · 28/11/2024 15:23

Don't like it - if you use the whole name then inevitably friends will call her Roz or Rozzie later on? And if you like Rose/Rosie then why not just go with that - or at last a name with that sound in?

I personally love and like longer names more than shorter one. If I'm choosing longer name, it's because I like longer name (fully) better than short form. Nicknames are just needed for some situation, but they aren't really always needed and sometimes they are avoidable. I don't see Rosamund as terribly long name - it's just that letters R, o, m take lot of space on screen so name looks longer than it is, but it's just like any other three-syllable name.

Well I just had to reply to this thread, with the obvious name change!
I am Rosamund, and I have never liked it! I agree with people who say the mund bit is ugly sounding. My poor Mum, who obviously loves it, has never understood my dislike of it, but to me I have always hated it. I go by Ros, or Rossie to my family, and that's fine, but I always dislike being somewhere like the doctors, dentist etc where they call you by your full name.
I've just turned 50 and my opinion isn't going to change if it hasn't by now! Don't do it OP, choose something easier on the ear!

RosamundIsMyName · 28/11/2024 15:40

My parents always used 'the rose of the world' meaning but it didn't help😂

RogueFemale · 29/11/2024 01:50

The only Rosamund I know of is Rosamund Lehman, a good Rosamund, but I wouldn't want to be called that name. I'd associate it with someone maybe helping one day with a complicated recipe.

Ruthietuthie · 29/11/2024 02:04

LOVE Rosamund. So elegant.

Sporadica · 29/11/2024 02:18

I didn't realise that some people pronounce it RAWZ-uh-mund rather than ROWS-uh-mund. Prefer the latter, which also avoids the likelihood of Roz. The "mund" part makes me think of Edmund, though.

SammyScrounge · 29/11/2024 02:43

It's a very pretty name. It would probably be shortened to Rosie and that also is very pretty.

GoldenLegend · 29/11/2024 07:15

Lovely and the ‘mund’ bit means ‘world’. Rose of the world.

I also like Rosina.

user1492757084 · 29/11/2024 09:49

Prefer Rose, Rosa, Rosemary, Rosie and Rosalind.
Yes, Rosina is sweet too.

Do you mind sharing roughly whereabouts you are from, that you pronounce it “Rows- uh - mund” ? I’ve never heard it pronounced that way and must admit that as much as I love the name, I do think that pronunciation is far prettier (and the diminutive Rose). But personally I’ve only ever heard Rosamund pronounced with a “ Roz” sound , same as Rosalind, so worry that shortening is somewhat inevitable.

MrsPeregrine · 29/11/2024 22:40

I like it. Reminds me of the famous actress in the Bond movie. I also love the name Rosabella.

It's Rozz-uh-mund.

Beautiful

??? Yes, I understand it’s typically pronounced that way, which is why I was asking @Sporadica where she was from that she’d heard it pronounced the way she’d initially suggested in her post (imo a prettier way). It could be the Rosamund is pronounced differently in other countries for all we know!

For example, similar Rosalie and Rosanna are usually pronounced with a “Rose” sound - so it always seemed unfair to me 🤣 that lovely “English” classics Rosamund and Rosalind get the harsher “ Roz” one.

WrongSortOfPoster · 29/11/2024 23:37

Sorry. Misunderstood.
