Baby girl came early- names!?

newmum1508 · 26/08/2024 18:12

My girl came 6 weeks early just 4 days ago and is currently in NICU at the moment. She had some breathing problems but is getting a lot stronger.
We hadn’t decide on a name!
I’m native American by heritage and was adopted to the UK as a child, so I wanted something to reflect that part of our heritage. My biological family I know had ties with the symbol of a wolf in their Seneca tribe, so we’ve decided on Tala as her middle name (wolf in Native American).

We thought we had another month and a bit to decide on first names but not any more!

I love Elowen (my husband is Cornish so it also fits that way).
I also like-
Willow
Etta
Sorrel (but I’m not sure if it’s too uncommon)

Our surname is Smith and her middle name is short too, so now I’m leaning towards 3 or more syllable first names, but I’m just not totally set on any!

Ive taken a lot of names off my list as I don’t think they fit with “ Tala Smith”. The only one that flows to me at the moment is Elowen.

Any suggestions I’d love 💕! I’m very into name meanings and quite like vintage names

Tala would make a lovely first name!

But agree with everyone Elowen or Sorrel.

newleafontheplantjohn · 26/08/2024 21:47

I love Sorrel.

JC03745 · 26/08/2024 21:51

Congrats on your little one Flowers
I don't often like other name choices, but I love all of yours!
Sorrel Smith is too SS heavy IMO
Etta Tala is also too TATA heavy
Although I like Elowen, I also really like Tala and would have that as a first name to represent your culture.

Yes, Tala Elowen Smith is fairly short, she 'might' change her name in the future and if not, its still a beautiful name.
I have a short, ancestral name, similar to the reason you chose Tala. I love the fact growing up it was easy to spell and pronounce, different to the 4 Rebecca's and 4 Sarah's in my year, and has significant cultural meaning.

Kerenza is also Cornish , you could shorten it to Kerri / Kerry and they are also lovely nicknames .
Congratulations on the birth of your daughter .

theduchessofspork · 26/08/2024 22:16

Ah that’s great news

I like Elowen - but she’ll inevitably end up Ellie and there are so many of them - in fact they’ll be quite a lot of Ellie Smiths

So I think Sorrel Smith is lovely and I’d go for that

I’m not mad on either Etta or Willow

Aquamarine1029 · 26/08/2024 22:21

What about Seneca? It's a beautiful name.

Seneca Smith.

What about Seneca? It's a beautiful name.

Seneca Smith.

I think between Senekot and the Emperor it might be a bit much

ChocoChocoLatte · 26/08/2024 22:49

Elowen is lovely.

We considered Arwyn which is similar.

Congratulations Flowers

BrieHugger · 26/08/2024 22:59

Congratulations!

Eloise Tala Smith
Seren Tala Smith

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 26/08/2024 23:18

Going against the grain here but I'm not keen on Elowen (I don't pronounce the H in Hello from where I'm from so I feel the way im saying it in my head sounds like I keep saying hello win) but could just be a dialect thing.

I much prefer Tala as a first name it's beautiful

I used to work with someone who's daughter was name Merryn and I loved it, I'd never heard it before and I've just realised from Google it's Cornish too!

Tala Merryn / Merryn Tala Smith

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 26/08/2024 23:18

Oh and congratulations op ❤️

Congratulations @newmum1508 !

Like many PPs I think Elowen Tala Smith sounds perfect.

miniaturepixieonacid · 26/08/2024 23:35

I think Elowen Tala is lovely. As is Tala Elowen if you wanted to consider Tala as a first name.

Congratulations!
Elowen is beautiful and with Tala to reflect your heritage sounds perfect
Sorrel is lovely too

BoleynMemories13 · 27/08/2024 05:14

Congratulations! I hope her stay in NICU is a short one for you all.

You're right that Elowen Tala Smith has the best flow on your list. It's the perfect choice to reflect her heritage on both sides.

BecuaseIWantItThatWay · 27/08/2024 07:25

Elowen is lovely.

As a slight alternative, Anwen Tala Smith also sounds good.

FloofPaws · 27/08/2024 07:29

Elowyn is lovely. I like Sorrel the best, was in my list too!
Many congratulations on the safe arrival 🩷

Mugcake · 27/08/2024 11:20

Congratulations! To echo other posters here I love Elowen! I like sorrel too but not a fan of alliterative names.

ScruffMuffin · 27/08/2024 13:32

Elowen is perfect, pretty, individual but well-known, and is meaningful to your family. I love it.

Sorrel is nice, but Sorrel Smith isn't great. Etta Tala and Willow Tala feel a bit awkward.

Congratulations on your lovely baby!

RedOnyx · 27/08/2024 14:42

Elowen Tala is gorgeous and it's nice that it honours her heritage on both sides.
Etta Tala Smith feels like too many short names. I would maybe go with a longer name and shorten to Etta - Henrietta, Arietta, Julietta, Marietta, Antoinette, Harriet...

lollyPaloozah · 27/08/2024 14:45

@Firebird83 i was going to say the same as you! Should be pronounced properly not ELLE-o-wen but el-OHH-en

that’s lovely with Tala though!

VaddaABeetch · 27/08/2024 15:01

Iseult, Isolde or Isolda
Sabine Sabina

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 27/08/2024 15:06

I always suggest Merryn in name threads because I love it so much, but couldn't use it, but Elowen is also nice, Kerenza too!

Ratfinkstinkypink · 27/08/2024 15:12

Elowen is beautiful and goes really well with Tala and Smith. Congratulations
