Would you add a 2nd middle name?

We have chosen a name for our baby girl due in a couple of months.

Nina Jean (two syllable surname).

Jean is in honour of a grandparent who is no longer with us.

We were wondering about another middle name. What are your thoughts? Probably in between the two names we have already chosen. Another name that means a lot to us is Daisy, but Nina Daisy Jean is maybe a bit of a mouthful?

They rarely get used so I wouldn't bother personally

SauviGone · 18/08/2024 18:25

No, I wouldn’t add a second middle name.

AnaMRT · 18/08/2024 18:44

I would add a second. I did and it sounds beautiful.

Chocolatelover13 · 18/08/2024 18:54

I would t use a middle name at all but certainly wouldn’t add a second one.

KirstenBlest · 18/08/2024 18:55

I'd add your maiden name or if you didn't change your name, the father's surname. e.g. Nina Jean Langford Jones

Nina Jean Daisy Jones looks a bit like you're trying to use all your favourite girl's names.

I'm another one who doesn't see the point of middle names. If the combination of first name and surname is a common one, the middle name can be useful.
e.g. Sarah Langford Jones stands out more than Sarah Jones.

No.

shoopshoopdedoo · 18/08/2024 19:22

No, I wouldn’t. Personally I think two middle names is a bit much. I would also only bother with a middle to honour someone, like you’re doing, or to get a mum or dad’s surname in.

I absolutely love Nina Jean! Two fab names. ❤️

MistyF · 18/08/2024 19:37

I would only do it if I can find name that flows good. I mostly love longer names, so it's hard to find combo that sound good.
I'm not bothered by not using a middle name. I want my kids to have middle name, since I always wanted one, they just add spark to my favorite name.
I would worry Nina Daisy Jean doesn't flow with two syllable surname. I think Nina Jean might flow better, or adding three syllable name. Something like Nina Rosalie Jean Thompson sounds better because different syllable names in person name generally sound better.

ImpunityJane · 18/08/2024 19:38

If it means a lot to you, do it. Daisy is a pretty name. You'll hardly ever be saying all the names in a row, but the order you've put them in works.

User6761 · 18/08/2024 19:45

No, but I'm definitely in the less is more camp when it comes to middle names! Nina Jean is lovely.

Berlinlover · 18/08/2024 19:46

I have two middle names - both my grandmother’s names.

Firsttimebabymummy · 18/08/2024 20:22

The order you've put them in works if you did want to do it. If it means a lot to you, do it. They're all short names x

theduchessofspork · 19/08/2024 00:05

Either combo is fine, they are both quite Dolly Parton (in a good way)

I love Jean.

TwinklyNight · 19/08/2024 00:24

I definitely would. Any two syllable name will give a pleasing flow.

RogueFemale · 19/08/2024 00:27

It's perfectly fine to have two middle names (lots of posh people do), so I would say go ahead if that's what you want.

bubblesummerxx · 19/08/2024 00:48

Nina Mae Jean

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 19/08/2024 02:08

I would. While people sometimes did it for first names too, afaik middle names in particular were traditionally for honouring family/godparents etc - before it became just as commonplace to pick something random that sounds nice (seems pointless imo, since that’s usually what the first name is for).

Lots of people who have followed the tradition for choosing middle names use more than one name (sometimes one from each side of the family for instance) - so I say use both names if they have meaning to you. The whole name isn’t going to be said often so flow/sound isn’t very important (unlike when saying the first name and surname together). Only reason for not using 2 middle names might be if it makes the name unlikely to fit on forms (due to double barrelled surname etc), but that isn’t the case here?

I like the way Nina Jean rhymes and rolls off the tongue so a second middle name might be better added third, not in between the two.

The Mae spelling is ugly, and it's a filler middle name.

Nina Mae Jean

NOOOOO!!! Why fuck up a beautiful name by adding 'Mae'???

OP...I adore Nina Jean and would not add anything else...it really doesn't need any enhancement as it's already lovely!

If you really wanted to add something more, a PP idea of using an alternative surname (yours or a family surname) would be the way to go, eg Nina Jean Roberts McCrae. I actually think that's pretty cool 👌🏻
