'normal' egyptian names

Due to our different family backgrounds, we named our son according to the formula: Welsh first name, Egyptian second name, then both surnames. This wasn't too hard as we had an Egyptian family name to fall back on. This time round we're having a girl, but don't have any suitable Egyptian family names and no one to ask. What I'd like is something three syllables that doesn't begin with 'M' and wouldn't be laughed at by any Egyptian people!

Admittedly, this is a bit of a tricky one, but I've been very impressed with the resourcefulness of everyone on Mumsnet, so I thought I'd give it a try. If anyone has any ideas, I would be very grateful.

there are some here but i see what you mean, often foreign names are things like 'stick' or 'wheel' in the actual language and you'd need to know whether they are names or nouns.

Does Laila work for Egypt? It works very well in the UK.

duchesse · 16/04/2008 13:33

Myriam? (am straying into completely unknown territory here, sorry)

duchesse · 16/04/2008 13:35

Some "normal" ones on here. Includes Mariah, which would work very well in the UK too.

Cleo?

This one includes Hebony/Ebony which is fairly usual in the UK.

Godness, knew mumsnet wouldn't let me down! Just popped out for my 36 week midwife appt (naming left a little late this time!) and when I get back I have all these riches to sift through. Thanks for all the suggestions, Samia sounds well with the other names so far...
