Give it to me straight .... What are your thoughts?
Is it going to be hard to say? Spelling difficulties? Would my daughter hate me if I gave her this name?
There's something drawing me to it. And it's not my usual style. Would you say it's a modern name? Although it's after quite a historic concept?
Can be brutally honest!

I don't know why, but it's a name I really dislike. The roar sound and it's a try too hard to be girly name maybe.

StringTheory1 · 12/08/2024 22:53

I’ve personally never liked it I’m afraid. I don’t like the “ROARRR!” sound in it.

But I know it’s quite popular and thought of as a pretty name, so I realise I’m just being a bit silly.

Same. I'm in the minority I think but I don't like it. The fact it sounds like a yawn, and it's a Disney princess ... I'd avoid Ariel, Elsa etc for same reason.

Dressinggowntime · 13/08/2024 09:15

It is very Disney princess. What happens if she’s plain? Also R is hard for them to say. They’ll be calling themselves ‘Auwowa’ for years.

Itsmyluckyegg · 13/08/2024 09:21

All I can think about now is this song. 😃😃

rainbowbee · 13/08/2024 09:24

I like it. But think about the many people who don't pronounce R properly and will call her Ah waw wa?

OolongTeaDrinker · 13/08/2024 11:37

Aurora is a great name for a little girl but I wouldn’t want to be an adult called that. Aurelia is much more versatile.

KirstenBlest · 13/08/2024 12:04

Too many Rs. I don't like it - I don't like the sounds, and it's a bit long and princessy. Rory for a girl is awful.

Dawn is better. Far less fussy.

Summerperfume · 13/08/2024 15:10

Love it! Beautiful name

Spanishgreekenglishfamily · 13/08/2024 15:13

Thank you everyone much appreciated, even those who didn't like it. Don't worry I wasn't offended by your honesty, I'd rather that than you just said it's lovely to appease me.

A similar name is Alba. What is your thoughts on that? Better than Aurora?

I much prefer Alba, so much less problematic for her in terms of spelling and pronunciation too. Obviously it's up to you though.

Firsttimebabymummy · 13/08/2024 15:17

I much prefer Alba and agree with the comment above.
Unproblematic whilst being uncommon.

StringTheory1 · 13/08/2024 15:27

For me Alba makes me see albumen.

mathanxiety · 13/08/2024 15:29

Like a PP, I prefer Aurelia, which a baby would grow into. Aurora is a name you'd grow out of.

mathanxiety · 13/08/2024 15:29

I like Alba a lot.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 13/08/2024 15:44

I don't like either, sorry. Arora should be good, because the northern lights are beautiful, but it just seems clunky. Don't like Rory and lots of small children can't manage the "r" sound.

Alba reminds me of a football team. I would prefer Alva.

Spanishgreekenglishfamily · 13/08/2024 15:52

@mathanxiety I like the idea of Aurelia but there's different pronunciations and it's also likely to be shortened.

shoopshoopdedoo · 13/08/2024 15:53

I don’t love Alba - where I’m from, no one pronounces t’s properly so it sounds identical to Albert! But I much prefer it to Aurora and it would be fine if you live somewhere with a better accent!

KirstenBlest · 13/08/2024 16:06

I don't like Alba either. As pp said, it sounds like Albert. Alma sounds nicer.

KirstenBlest · 13/08/2024 16:13

If you want a name meaning dawn, there's always Gwawr.

Meredusoleil · 13/08/2024 17:22

I don't mind Alba, but much prefer Alma like a pp said. It means "soul" in Spanish, which is a nice meaning too imho.

ThisHangryPinkBalonz · 13/08/2024 19:06

Meredusoleil · 13/08/2024 05:52

Wow! That is proper nasty 😳

Yes, kids can be mean.

RogueFemale · 13/08/2024 23:32

Alba is awful. Sorry.

Tintinuviel · 15/08/2024 00:04

BoleynMemories13 · 13/08/2024 05:39

I really dislike it I'm afraid (you asked for honesty). It's a mouthful to say and a nightmare for those who can't pronounce their Rs (imagine Jonathan Ross saying it).

It's also very trendy/Disney Princess which is totally the opposite to my own personal style.

I lump it with names like Luna and Nova which have all just come out of nowhere and will date quite badly imo.

I have to agree. I WANT to like it, it looks pretty on paper, bit the syllables just sound a mouthful. It's soft but it's TOO soft.

I prefer Aurelia or Audra as similar names that are easier to pronounce.

Ellmau · 19/08/2024 23:05

Alba's nice. My only concern would be with the small Scottish political party.

LittleDoveLove · 22/08/2024 23:23

I don't not like it, I think the way it's written looks a lot prettier than how it's said though. I prefer Aurelia which seems on the same vein. X
