Rhyming mother/daughter names?

I am pretty sure I know the answer to this really, but am having such a hard time letting go of the name.

I completely fell in love with Cordelia, which ticks lots of boxes for me: I love the meanings (heart; of the sea), the Shakespearean connection, I like the sound of it, it’s unusual enough but widely recognised as a name, and DH likes it too.

The issue is, my name is Amelia. They are far too similar, aren’t they? I know long term she and I won’t be joined at the hip, but 18 years is a long time to be saying: “Hi, I’m Amelia and this is Cordelia”. It took me three days before realising they rhymed so much, when I did the thing of properly trying it out eg. Christmas cards, introducing us etc.

I have considered introducing her as Cora for short, but don’t like it anywhere near as much as Cordelia (Cora on its own would not be on a shortlist for either me or DH), and my name isn’t ever shortened, so I can’t get out of it that way (unlike a previous thread, where Steve sometimes went by Stephen anyway and little Eve could be introduced as Evelyn).

DH isn’t so bothered by the rhyming, but he wouldn’t have to say the names together in quick succession as often as I would. (However, it’s not his favourite of those on our list and I think he’s hoping I just come round to his favourite on my own).

Do I have to just give up on the dream?

It’s assonance not rhyme. Well assonance is ‘internal rhyme’ rather than at the end of the word. Rory George doesn’t rhyme per se but is O-heavy! I like it though. Rolls off the tongue. @Dustyblue

Ha, I do really like Aurelia, so great suggestion! I know two other little ones and one of my cats has evolved Aurelia as a “full name” if she’s being naughty, so I think it would be too much confusion for dd2!

Thank you! I love all three of those names, and have already had a go at convincing DH on Nerissa, but his taste is a bit more mainstream (sadly). Great suggestions, though!

I actually know a family with a Cordelia, Amelia and Celia! One of them is the mother. Obviously didn't bother them but I did find it slightly odd.

@BabyNameHelpPls we have a DD called Cordelia and she is an absolute doll. Use it op, it's a lovely name

It's the "Ror" with the "Geor" that bothered me.

You've all convinced me further that I should've just used it. Not to worry, I like his actual name too.

I'm picky about names and I think a mother-daughter with the same ending is fine. A full-on rhyme might be different. If you have a second daughter later, I wouldn't do the -lia ending again though as it would be a bit matchy.

And I would have avoided Rory George as too hard to say, sorry @Dustyblue. I think the -y sound would have got swallowed between the 2 o sounds.

Aimee and Annie don't rhyme though.

I think it's fine. My cousin and his daughter have very similar rhyming names, as do dh (or my nn for him) and dd (none are UK names). It's fine, no one cares. Sometimes people enjoy saying their names together.
