I prefer Delphine, since it's gentle, chic and elegant, but Elizabeth is fine, just a little bland.

DreamTheMoors · 31/07/2024 02:18

I like Elizabeth.

Love, Elizabeth

Elizabeth. Timeless and suits all ages. Many choices for nn too.

Overtheatlantic · 31/07/2024 06:21

I’ve never liked Delphine. It doesn’t flow well.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 31/07/2024 06:32

Elizabeth. So many variations of it which your child can adopt and adapt as they wish at different points
Delphine feels a bit try hard. I also wonder how many people will only be aware of it from Delphine Donkey in Peppa Pig and think you have named your child after that character

Vallmo47 · 31/07/2024 06:42

I love both. Unfortunately I think children will associate with Delphine Donkey in Peppa pig. Others might joke and call her dolphin, but kids will always find a way of saying silly things.

husbandcallsmepickle · 31/07/2024 06:44

I also thought of Delphine Donkey first

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 31/07/2024 06:58

Delphine Donkey!

Elizabeth is a lovely name

Firsttimebabymummy · 31/07/2024 07:15

Elizabeth. Classic, rimless and elegant. Lots of nn potential

Moreteaandchocolate · 31/07/2024 08:22

Elizabeth is so versatile with so many short versions, it’s probably the most beautiful classic that never goes out of fashion.

Frumpyfrau · 31/07/2024 08:33

Delphine, because I love Orphan Black, and the actress who played Delphine.

Caraxes · 31/07/2024 08:41

Both are lovely, I've always had a soft spot for Elizabeth and all of the nicknames associated with it are nice.
Delphine is more unusual but also very nice. I admit I know it because of Delphine Donkey from Peppa, but that said it's not a strong association (like actually calling her "Peppa" would be!) and it's a sweet name.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 31/07/2024 08:51

I love Elizabeth and would probably choose it out of the two, but I do like Delphine too. It's unusual without being weird, has a sort of Continental chic about it, and always makes me think of delphiniums which are very pretty flowers.

Delphine Elizabeth would be a nice combination if you would go for it. She'd still have the option of using Elizabeth or one of its many short forms if she didn't feel like a Delphine.

yikesanotherbooboo · 31/07/2024 13:23

I love Elizabeth and am not really a fan of Delphine for rather vague negative connotations which are certainly unfair

Treesnbirds · 31/07/2024 13:49

Know a gorgeous Delphine who goes by Delphie- lovely!

peaceinourtime · 31/07/2024 15:25

Delphine Is an ace name. I know one aged about 70.

78Summer · 31/07/2024 15:26

Love Elizabeth. It is elegant.

RuthW · 31/07/2024 16:41

Elizabeth is lovely.

Delphine is like dolphin

BurntOrange · 31/07/2024 16:42

Delphine 💯

CruCru · 04/08/2024 16:46

I love Elizabeth. Delphine is nice but I understand that many of the French names that the English like are quite old fashioned in France - a bit like Barbara or Pauline.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 04/08/2024 22:42

Unless you have obvious French links, then I personally prefer very classic and timeless Elizabeth (fab historical namesakes too). Delphine is pretty but just feels so French to me for some reason, in a way that more popular French names like Juliette, Josephine, Isabelle etc don’t as much. I’d be somehow surprised to meet a Delphine Smith for example.
