Boy number four

hertsmummy14 · 27/07/2024 12:05

We already have a Henry, a Joseph and George. Our shortlist for boy number four is Alexander, Richard and Oliver, but we just can't decide what suits best. Any thoughts or alternatives really welcome, please?

Alexander goes perfectly with the sibset. Oliver is a good match too.

Richard is woefully dated. Jo's brothers all have names which are traditional but currently popular (or still popular). Richard would definitely be the odd one out in that case.

I like Oliver! Or how about Edward (Eddie), Charles (Charlie) or James (Jamie). You don't say whether you shorten your other kids names but I think they would work with the long versions too 😊

I love the name Richard …..school are full of little boys called Alex and Oliver….Richard is a name that can take you through life….everyone can spell it….and nicknames if you want them …..woefully date? …..names come round all the time…violet and Elsie were woefully dated a few years ago….reception classes are full of them now

Alexander or Oliver from your list.

William
Frederick
Nicholas
Charles

RhetoricalRectangle · 27/07/2024 12:51

Alexander, Leo or Sebastian.

Not a fan of Richard

Beamur · 27/07/2024 12:53

I think Richard is due a revival. Noble name.
The other two are lovely but everywhere.
Rich is a cool nn.

The irony of your statement is that we have several boys called Richard in our school (it seems to be popular among Eastern European families), whereas I don't know many boys called Alex. A few Oliver, but not too many. It definitely depends where you are.

Everyone has different opinions. Mine is that Richard should have stayed in the 50s/60s. You're entitled to disagree. Life would be boring if we all like the same names.

Looking at the style of their sibset, personally I think Alexander goes so much better.

Moreteaandchocolate · 27/07/2024 13:05

Gorgeous names! I voted for Alexander as it goes so perfectly with your other children’s names. I also like Oliver but around here there are a lot of Olivers, so they all go be Olly + surname!

TomatoSandwiches · 27/07/2024 13:08

I like them all tbh, but could I suggest Robert as well.

Nicebloomers · 27/07/2024 13:13

Richard is absolutely due for a revival

Normallynumb · 27/07/2024 13:31

Alexander goes well with his siblings

PurBal · 27/07/2024 13:33

Richard is lovely and definitely due a comeback!

Mumofgirls2017 · 27/07/2024 22:20

Alexander is perfect. Other ideas

edward
thomas
daniel
benjamin
samuel
robert
charles
arthur
william
frederick
peter

Hellodarknessmyfriend · 27/07/2024 22:22

My ex-husband was a Richard. Dick by name...

Longdarkcloud · 27/07/2024 22:31

I think Richard is now inadvisable because of the nn Dick.

Alexander is a name I love and it would in my opinion be a great choice 😸
Roland and Rupert would go well

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 27/07/2024 22:36

Your other boys names are perennially popular classics - so I think of your choices Oliver is definitely the best bet. Alexander is very lovely too and a touch more timeless perhaps than Oliver - but at 4 syllables no one will likely use the full name and you might as well just call him Alex or Xander etc instead. Oliver’s length and style fits better with the other boys names imo

I agree with those saying no to Richard. While it is classic, I think it would be unfair to him when all his brothers have names that you can easily buy fun plastic junk on in shops🤣 (eg. still very well used for kids today). Richard’s namesakes will likely mostly be 50 plus.

Other ideas just in case (as I love a classic boys name too) - I assume you’ve already considered William, Thomas, Edward, Daniel or Samuel? All similar length and style to your other boys.

BigBoysDontCry · 27/07/2024 22:49

Alexander from your options but I like Peter with the other boys too.

Henry, Joseph, George and Peter
Or
Henry, Joseph, George and Ben, Benjamin or Benedict?

Or maybe Matthew or Mark or Miles?

BigBoysDontCry · 27/07/2024 22:51

Or maybe Edgar?

FluffyJellyCat · 27/07/2024 23:03

Robert.

All my kids have cletic roots which helped to tie them together. I have two tree names. Wanted call dd Hazel as well. So on that irrelevant point, I'd think about a common theme. Or even try some out a don't name on the first day? Ds3 had a week of name A then a week of name b 😅

VenusClapTrap · 28/07/2024 12:02

Richard. You don’t come across it much any more.

Words · 28/07/2024 15:42

Alexander or Richard. The latter is surely in the next phalanx of names to be revived. It's a good solid name.

wizzler · 28/07/2024 16:21

Like all your names ( prefer Richard and Alexander to Oliver )

How about James or Matthew or David
