Is this baby name too close to my own?

I am expecting my first baby girl, I really love the name Annabelle, as does DH. The only issue is my name is Bella, I worry the two belle names are too much? Do you think they are too close? Really struggling to find another name we love!

Awww she'd be Babybel! :D
Not an issue really though. Generations of people have named their kids after themselves or grandparents. I wouldn't worry. She'll end up with a completely different nickname anyway, I'm sure!

Hmmm if it’s a family name, then fine.

Ill be honest though, if I met you I would think it’s cute……but slightly narcissistic

WinterV2point0 · 19/07/2024 14:37

Not a problem, loads of men give their sons their exact name after all!

Lifeinlists · 19/07/2024 14:41

I think it's fine and as pp says, sons called after their fathers still happens, and that's usually the exact same name.
I'd spell it Annabel, which is more common and less like your name.

Berlinlover · 19/07/2024 14:46

I know a mother and daughter called Kim and Kimberley. I think it’s a bit daft personally.

LittleGreenDuck · 19/07/2024 15:14

Is your name actually Bella, or are you an Isabella or similar? I think that would make a difference.

Otherwise, I'd agree that Annabel would be a better spelling and slightly further away from your name.

Just Bella - I think my parents were ahead of the nickname as full name trend!

It does limit her shortenings though....

I guess, but lots of names have no shortenings so it's not that odd to only have a few (Anna,Annie, Anne etc.)

Also (I wouldn't mind this because I like "family" names) but people will definitely assume you named her after yourself....

AzureAnt · 19/07/2024 15:59

It's fine, and not too far away from naming a child after a parent. Nobody thinks that is weird.
I know 2 sets of mums and daughters, Yvonne and Yvette, and Colleen and Colette.
I think it's quite cool 😀

Havesome2024 · 19/07/2024 16:03

Not too alike, my son and his Dad names are more similar.

Getonwitit · 19/07/2024 16:08

Go for it. Many families do, My Great Great Grandfather and every eldest son all the way through have the same name, 6 men with the same name.

littlegrebe · 19/07/2024 16:10

Men throughout history have named their sons after themselves without hesitated. I think it's fine, and if she doesn't like it when she's older she can always be an Annie. (I do like Babybel though)

BobbyBiscuits · 19/07/2024 16:11

It's totally fine. It's quite common for mums to pick names that are a bit similar to their own, sometimes without even noticing.
Both names are lovely, and it's not like people will see you and get you mixed up.

Firsttimebabymummy · 19/07/2024 18:56

I like it xx

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/07/2024 18:57

It’s fine

Moreteaandchocolate · 19/07/2024 19:10

I think it’s fine! Annabelle is lovely and usually gets shortened to Annie, rather than Belle, so it’s not too similar at all 😊

TheHuntSyndicate · 19/07/2024 19:13

Annalise?

Meaning:God is my oath; Favor, grace. Annalise is a girl's name of Hebrew origin, meaning "God is my oath" and "favor" or "grace." Annalise is a variant of Annalisa and has a pleasant, soothing sound to it.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 19/07/2024 23:58

Seems fine to me? (although personally I love the classic simplicity/elegance of just Anna!)

I do think it makes sense for siblings names not to be too similar in sound -as you want them to be able to understand which child you are yelling for/at! but not so important for parents (Indeed, historically a lot of children have been named directly after parents, and everyone seemed to get by just fine.)

NuffSaidSam · 20/07/2024 00:01

I think they're too similar, but I also hate the tradition of naming boys after their dads.

Scissor · 20/07/2024 00:05

I think it's a perfectly lovely name and the link with yours is great, a nod to your parents naming choice.

RogueFemale · 22/07/2024 01:57

It's fine. I know people (and not all Americans) where the eldest son has the same name as the father.

Spirallingdownwards · 22/07/2024 01:59

I know a family with a Michael (father) and children are Michaela and Michael (not twins).

miniaturepixieonacid · 22/07/2024 15:52

I think it's fine. All the Annabelles I know are shortened to Annie/Ana. It's Isabellas and Arabellas who seem to get Bella.

Als, although I know pp was joking, I kind of love Babybel as an immediate family, in the house nickname.
