Love the name Rowan for baby boy and how it’s pronounced, although is it Irish or very English.
I know google says Irish roots etc but does anyone know a rowan that is Irish or any similar names?

also liking Ronan, Ruadhán

Roman is very popular @Nbaby . I think a Ronan might spend a lot of time saying 'Ronan not Roman'

izzydrizzy04 · 18/07/2024 16:08

i absolutely love the name ronan, i'd go with that

APurpleSquirrel · 18/07/2024 16:16

DS (6) is a Rowan so I love it - knew one other boy called Rowan (now 11) & a woman a worked with (she's probably late 40s now) called Rowan. A very unisex name really.
It's not super popular; though there are similar sounding names like Rohan, Roman, Ronan etc.
For me Ronan makes me think of Ronan the Destroyer from Marvel.

I m Irish and have a Rowan. It's not an Irish name, it comes from the Rowan tree. There are Irish varients as mentioned above.

I also like Eben.

Yeah I agree with PP @Nbaby
Rowan is fine (I much prefer for a girl) but RoMan has become so popular last couple of years. It is very trendy, one of the fastest rising boy names if you look at ONS official stats and now in top 20-30 from having been outside the top 2,000 a few years back. I know 5 babies called Roman. Depends if you care or would mind correcting people that the name is RoWan or RoNan or RoMan.

Love it for either sex.

I have only known a girl Rowan- is it usually for boys?

Rowan Atkinson aka Mr Bean

Ruan is a nice name.

If you like Rowan a similar name is Jowan, it's the Cornish form of John 😊

SC126 · 19/07/2024 21:23

My 5 year old is called Rowan. We have only ever met other boys with the same name and no girls. It’s named after the Rowan tree.

itsgettingweird · 19/07/2024 21:40

I know both males and females called Rowan.

I love it.

Also like Roman for a boy.

I would look at behindthename.com

Behindthename.com says that Rowan is an anglicised version of an Irish name. It also gives you an idea of how popular the name is for boys and girls if you’re interested.
