Names too similar for sisters?

ThatLoftyBear · 23/06/2024 22:35

Hello, would love to hear if people think these two names are too similar: Cecilia (name of our eldest) and Laetitia (considered name for soon to arrive girl 2).
Didn't realise how similar they sounded at first, we love the name, and it has significance for us, we also like they have the same origin but now am concerned it will sound like a gimmick/ others will confuse the two names.
Thank you for your thoughts!

Not at all, they are both lovely.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 23/06/2024 23:05

They are fine together , lots of people choose sibling names that end in the same sound or have other similarities - it only really matters if the sounds are so alike that people would get confused (like Milly and Molly etc).

I must admit I prefer the sound of Cecilia over Laetitia though (though I suspect the reason Laetitia far less used in the UK is due to the “tit” in the name rather than due to the sound) , but I understand it has family meaning to you and I can also appreciate the classical elegance to the name that must have attracted you to it.

ajanifear · 23/06/2024 23:17

I don’t think they are too similar and if Laetitia is meaningful for you, that’s a good reason to choose it

Cecilly · 23/06/2024 23:42

I think they sound nice together!

BoleynMemories13 · 23/06/2024 23:45

I don't think they're too similar at all. I know a couple of Letitias who are 40+ but not one you hear very often at all on a newborn these days. Same as Cecilia in that sense I guess. I actually think they match quite well.

Bristolnewcomer · 23/06/2024 23:49

I think they do look quite samey tbh sorry. Because of that for me it might make them harder for people to pronounce as a pair because they are a visual rhyme but not a real rhyme - if that makes sense. It makes me want to say Cecilia and LaTEESHEEUH

Kumquaat · 23/06/2024 23:49

A bit pretentious. Imagine calling their names in public.

NuffSaidSam · 23/06/2024 23:51

I think they'd be quite hard to say together. Like a bit of a tongue twister.

I don't think they're too similar though.

Ohmydreams · 23/06/2024 23:57

I think they are similar. Only letatita I know is called Letty,is that an option?

SD1978 · 24/06/2024 00:02

I couldn't- too similar for me- and if I was trying to call them quickly- or another adult was I'd find that a mouthful. I'm not a fan of matchy matchy names with siblings at all- bit also not my kids, not my business if you do.

MistyHazelFox · 24/06/2024 10:26

I love Cecilia and Laetitia together and don't think they are too similar.

Nicebloomers · 24/06/2024 11:07

I don’t think they’re particularly similar at all.

pinkdelight · 24/06/2024 11:26

I don't think their similar, though both together are quite a mouthful. I'd also find the 'ae' a pain as she'll constantly have it misspelt and have to correct people. Any reason it can't be Letitia?

platform9andthreequarters · 24/06/2024 11:27

I don't think too similar at all. I know an Elsie and an Ella...now that's similar.

timoteigirl · 27/06/2024 20:24

not too similar

Ozgirl75 · 28/06/2024 03:58

They’re not similar but as soon as you say Laetitia I picture Sharon from Eastenders and also the Tit is so prominent in the name. Surely boys will call her “Le tits” at school. If you like the cadence of it, what about Lavinia?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 28/06/2024 10:20

Not really sure that that risk of Lav from Lavinia is any better than the risk of Tit (and at least Letitia tends to be pronounced with a Tish sound) . If OP wanted suggestions of a similar style to Cecilia, I’d probably suggest Antonia fits nicely in style (and has cute nn’s like Annie the way Cecilia has Cece) or maybe wilder cards Aurelia or Octavia.

GoldDuster · 28/06/2024 10:27

I don't find them at all similar OP, the only similarity is that they end in an A. I was expecting Kaden and Jaden.

FangsForTheMemory · 01/07/2024 09:18

Two of my absolute favourites and I think they sound lovely together!

Jegersur · 01/07/2024 09:21

Not similar at all. Both names are great and go well together.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 03/07/2024 17:34

I have a Cecilia and I wouldn't personally.

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 03/07/2024 17:38

Is Cecelia's name shortened at all? CeCe and LeeLee? Cece and Teetee?

viques · 03/07/2024 17:44

What about Allegra? Keeps the musical theme , and has some of the l sounds in Letitia, my preferred spelling!

RosieFlamingo · 03/07/2024 17:48

I think I must be pronouncing one of them wrong as in my head they sound nothing like each other.
