Is Evelyn too popular?

Early on in my pregnancy we both settled on Evelyn for our baby girl, however I’ve spotted a few threads on here suggesting that it (along with Evie/Eva) are very popular at the moment.

I like a few other names…Lyra, Nina, and Robin, but these are all taken by close relatives or friends.

My husband’s suggestion is that we go with Evalina and then we can shorten to Lina/Lena which I really like, but it feels a little bit prissy to me in it’s long version!

What do you think? And any other suggestions in the same ballpark?

If popularity bothers you, yes it is very popular.

Robin is also v popular and increasing.

I love Nina!

Agree Nina is lovely. There are lots of lovely underused classic names that sound refreshing in a sea of Eve/ Amelia / Isabel / Lilys.

Nina
Mary
Miranda
Hester

I really like Evelyn and it's not popular here- I know of one.

bridgetreilly · 25/06/2024 18:47

I like it but much prefer EVE-lin to EV-uh-lin.

FayCarew · 25/06/2024 19:53

Me too @bridgetreilly . I can't see any appeal in EV-uh-lin.
I like Eve and Lyn(ne).

Thanks everyone, I realised I might be over thinking it as I have a couple of close friends who have kids who’s names are all in the top 10 or 5, Evelyn is 21 so not too bad!

My husband has said he prefers Evelina now though 🤦🏻‍♀️

Please don’t use an Eve name it’s so over used - not special enough

FayCarew · 26/06/2024 20:12

Not only are the names overused, they've been overused for ages, so it will end up like being called Sue if you're middle aged. It doesn't matter if you're Susan, Suzanne, Susanna(h), Suzy, Susie, Sue, Su, Soo, you'll always be one of many.

I have an Evelyn and have only met 1 other one, a 93 year old Evelyn at the bus stop once when my own was a toddler. Made me think how lovely and timeless it was.

DreamTheMoors · 26/06/2024 20:24

I’ve only known one Evelyn in my entire life and she was born in 1899.
I was quite partial to her.
I think Evelyn is a lovely name and if you like it, nothing should stop you from naming your sweet daughter that.
Don’t listen to the naysayers or the outsiders - she’s your baby. Give her the name you wish her to have. ❤️

They are all in the south west then. I kid you not every other girl here is called Eve/Eva/Evie. Agree its like Sue for women in their 60s or Vicky for women in their 50s. One of a crowd. If that doesnt bother you fine but I wouldn't want that myself.
