Please can I have some honest opinions on my current list of girls names. Driving myself insane trying to find a perfect name that will look good on a professional adult but I also love and wouldn't mind saying 100,000 times 🤣
Ideally something strong but pretty also. Girls names seems so much harder IMO.

Adeline (Ada)
Cecilia/Cecily (CeeCee)
Anastasia
Emmeline
Rose
Camilla
Annabel
Margot
Amelie
Meredith
Merida
Adelaide
June
Florence
Adeline
Cecilia

Lovely names!

My favourites from your list are

Anastasia
Rose
Annabel
Margot
Amelie
Meredith
Adelaide
June
Florence

I know CeeCee is a popular nickname, but it makes me think of the character C.C. Babcock in "The Nanny".

Achanceencounter · 20/06/2024 22:39

Making love in the afternoon
With Cecilia
Up in my bedroom
I got up to wash my face
When I come back to bed
Someone’s taken my place

Celia, you’re breaking my heart
You’re shaking my confidence daily
Oh, Cecilia, I’m down on my knees
I’m begging you please to
Come on home

Wouldn't be my first choice.

Moreteaandchocolate · 20/06/2024 22:51

Adeline (Ada) - love!
Cecilia/Cecily (CeeCee) - the full name sounds pretentious to me and I dislike the nn for an adult
Anastasia - like
Emmeline - like
Rose - like
Camilla - Parker Bowles association
Annabel - love
Margot - too trendy, might date badly
Amelie - like - might get misheard as Emily
Meredith - like this - Miri for short maybe
Merida - too Disney
Adelaide - ok - bit more modern than your others
June - love
Florence - love

I would pick Adeline, Annabel, June or Florence :)

Tadpole10 · 20/06/2024 22:52

Adeline (Ada) - good
Cecilia/Cecily (CeeCee) - OK
Anastasia - good
Emmeline - great & suffragette connection
Rose - good
Camilla Parker Bowles- no
Annabel - fine
Margot - ok
Amelie - popular. Personally I find it too soft and frilly
Meredith - good
Merida - the princess from Brave- no

Adelaide - ok
June - good
Florence - ok, too popular
Adeline - same as above
Cecilia - same as above

Few more suggestions- Constance/ Connie, Josephine, Penelope

Achanceencounter · 20/06/2024 22:55

Means "nobleness, nobility", from the French form of the Germanic name Adalheidis, which was composed of adal "noble" and the suffix heit "kind, sort, type". It was borne in the 10th century by Saint Adelaide, the wife of the Holy Roman emperor Otto the Great.

No hate @Moreteaandchocolate but I wouldn't call the name Adelaide modern!

ajanifear · 20/06/2024 22:56

Adeline (Ada) - how would you pronounce it? Fine but not that interesting
Cecilia/Cecily (CeeCee) - don’t love the meaning, CeeCee feels very American
Anastasia - I like it, like the diminutive options but it does bring to mind the animated film
Emmeline - Pankhurst, prefer just Emmy or Emily personally
Rose - fine, classic, doesn’t conjure up much, prefer Rosa I think
Camilla - the queen
Annabel - I like it, love Annie as a diminutive
Margot - fine, seems trendy at the moment
Amelie - pretty, prefer Amelia probably
Meredith - nice but does make me think of Greys Anatomy
Merida - too associated with the disney film
Adelaide - prefer Adeline
June - fine, probably not quite revived yet but does mean it’s not very common, prefer Juno
Florence - nice, classic, cute

Ok, good point! My mistake! I do actually really like it, and even more so now I know its origins!

OopsieeDaisy · 20/06/2024 23:17

Annabel is my favourite from your list, lovely name! Really not keen on Meredith.

mathanxiety · 20/06/2024 23:37

They're nearly all old fashioned names, and will be very much of their time when your daughter is an adult.

Adeline/ Ada - prefer Ada; it sounds stronger and less frilly.
Adeline brings to mind barbershop quarters singing 'Sweet Adeline' in four part harmony.

Cecilia / Cecily - I see these as very distinct names. Cecilia has more gravitas imo, but Cecily is a prettier name (imo).

Anastasia - love this name; Ana is a nice abbreviation. I think Anastasia would command respect in a professional arena.

Emmeline - love this name, and it would go down well in a professional career.

Rose - too redolent of lace, fine linen hankies, and bone china for me.

Camilla - nice; I see this as a strong name, and I think it would work in a professional setting. Also a classic name that isn't tied to the current Old Lady name trend.

Annabel - nice; I can see a barrister named Annabel. Maybe a little horsey?

Margot - strong name, would work well in adult life.

Amelia - a bit wet/ insipid, imo. I can't get away from the 'mealy' sound in the middle.

Meredith - a bit harsh. I don't see the attraction of this name, frankly.

Merida - Disney, so no.

Adelaide - nice, has gravitas.

June - I like this name a lot. I think it will stand the test of time. Lovely for a child and an adult.

Florence - nice, and would work in any professional area. Only drawback is the nn Flo.

HcbSS · 20/06/2024 23:41

Adeline (Ada) Adeline lovely, Ada no
Cecilia/Cecily (CeeCee) no
Anastasia yes
Emmeline yes

Firsttimebabymummy · 20/06/2024 23:46

You've got a great set of names and we have a similar taste. Here's my thoughts on them

Adeline (Ada)- it's OK.
Cecilia/Cecily (CeeCee) - not keen
Anastasia- I like this name. I think of the film but not a bad thing. Lots of nice nn's
Emmeline- prefer Emma or Emily.
Rose- I like, classic, would have it as a nn to a longer version
Camilla - nah
Annabel - it's OK as I like the nn Anna but know loads of bells... prefer Rosanna for nns rose/rosie/Anna
Margot - I like the name but too trendy atm
Amelie - prefer Emily or Amelia (but that's too popular imo)
Meredith - I really like this.
Merida - no
Adelaide - I see a lot of love for this but I don't like it
June - cute. Really like
Florence - I loved this name but there's loads nr me and definitely trendy

Firsttimebabymummy · 20/06/2024 23:52

Meant to say my faves are Anastasia, Rose, Meredith, June

Other suggestions- Rosanna, Roseanne

I'd probably go for Anastasia June. I think it sounds professional & sweet.

RogueFemale · 20/06/2024 23:55

@mommyandmore Your list speaks of your struggle, sort of generic with no direction.

I don't generally suggest a list but here goes, if only to bump you out of the generic comfort zone:

Venetia
Sibylla
Pandora
Scarlett
India

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 21/06/2024 00:12

LonelyMom123 · 21/06/2024 11:03

The only ones I like are Meredith, Amelie and June

Suchardchoccy · 21/06/2024 11:18

Adeline (Ada) - i think I prefer Adelaide
Cecilia/Cecily (CeeCee) - prefer Cecilia
Anastasia - possibly a bit Disney
Emmeline - pankurst, good association tho!
Rose - I have a Rose so I'm biased, I don't like Rosie
Camilla - parker bowles, otherwise ok

Annabel - too standard for me personally
Margot - I don't like how popular this is
Amelie - different but similar to other names
Meredith - pretty! Not common
Merida - nice but again possibly a bit disney
Adelaide - I like this
June - sounds too old lady for me (and my DDs have "old lady names")
Florence - nightingale, again a good association!

Hope this helps!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/06/2024 11:53

Love Rose -pretty and very classic. Cecilia and Cecily are also beautiful- traditional and elegant.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/06/2024 11:56

Oh missed Camilla - an elegant choice too.I don’t think Camilla P-B matters personally.

LadyDanburysHat · 21/06/2024 11:59

Adeline (Ada) - not keen, just a bit old lady
Cecilia/Cecily (CeeCee) - like both of these
Anastasia - good name
Emmeline - good strong name
Rose - always seems a bit wet to me
Camilla - sloane ranger
Annabel - like this
Margot - overdone old fashioned
Amelie - love this, but people will probably think it's Amelia
Meredith - great name
Merida - nope, Disney
Adelaide - like Adeline, not great
June - old lady
Florence - like this

newrubylane · 21/06/2024 12:04

Margot is my favourite.Camilla is also beautiful but I decided against it because of the Parker Bowlers association.

TempsPerdu · 21/06/2024 17:25

Disclaimer: I’ve been honest but I’m not a fan of frilly/fussy names in general and some of these are a bit ‘much’ for me. Also not keen on very popular names.

Adeline (Ada) - not keen, feels quite trendy and Ada is very popular now
Cecilia/Cecily (CeeCee) - too frilly, both feel a bit lispy and insipid to me. Much prefer Celia, which I think is lovely.
Anastasia - much too showy and fussy for me. Quite a mouthful to call in the playground - would she end up as Ana/Stacey?
Emmeline - quite like this; we considered this for DD but worried it would just be confused with Emily.
Rose - OK; classic and pretty but a bit prim
Camilla - too horsey/royal
Annabel - also too horsey
Margot - don’t get the love for this, and it’s too popular now so likely to date
Amelie - pretty sound but a bit overdone and nothingy now (was overused as the ‘new’ Amelia/Emily)
Meredith - really like; I find the slight harshness quite appealing and Merry is a fab nickname
Merida - pretty sound but too tied to Disney
Adelaide - growing on me but it’s quite a serious, heavy-sounding name: Addy as a nn to lighten it up?
June - quite different from your other choices; I like as a middle name but less keen as a first (still feels quite old ladyish)
Florence - much too common

Emmeline or Meredith for me.
