I don't think any are chavvy

Joshua, Charlie and Finlay are probably more popular than the others - with Finlay being a bit more "fashionable"

Jo (without an e) is to me, a girl's spelling

Fenella and Monty are quite posh

Alexander and Katie are my favorites from your list

FranSanDisco · 06/04/2008 20:07

I like Finlay, Jo with an e for a boy. I prefer the shortened versions Alex, Will and Zach.

I like Katie, Emilia and Ruby from the girls list.

They don't make me think of any type of person.

What's this obsession with chavvy?

moondog · 06/04/2008 20:07

They are all dreadful. Jo is ok though as is William.
And dead common.

How anyone could name a boy after a jug is beyond me.

Not chavvish.
Just wet middle England sorta names.

LynetteScavo · 06/04/2008 20:13

Monty, Middle class, intelligent. I think labrador, but I do love it.

Joshua, naughty scamp. over popular imo.

Finlay - young and funky parents, but not chavvy.

Charlie, getting over popular, but ok if short for Charles.

Jo, Good solid name, timelss and classless.

Toby, OK.

Alexander, for some reason their parents seem older and fussier that everybody elses.

Will - Ok, but for some reason I'm not keen on William, no reason why.

Zachary - cool, funky, have only ever known one who was bright, evergetic, and very scamptastic.

Ruby, I would have had this for DD, but it didn't go with our surname. Some have sugested it is the new Jade.

Katie, OK

Emelia, looks like parents just wanted an alternative spelling to Amelia

Fenella - quite posh and unusual.

Amelia, quite the best name of all but becoming far to popular now, so avoid at all costs.

mamalovesmojitos · 06/04/2008 20:14

love joshua, finlay and alexander.
dont like zachary or monty but they're not chavvy imo.

love love love ruby, the others are all ok.

none are chavvy or awful.

morocco · 06/04/2008 20:18

they're all quite popular round here apart from Zachary
none are imo white working class names if that is what is worrying you? agree about chav obsession atm on here. more 'wet middle england' to quote moondog

MadameCh0let · 06/04/2008 20:19

I love your screen name! Name your child even half so well!!!

Monty - love this, and I would say a bit posh. I met a ruff woman in Wimbledon with a Monty but I'd still say posh. I'll call her a statistical anomoly

Joshua - Chav
Finlay - No, but not posh either. Neutral at the moment but may roll downwards..
Charlie - neutral. I quite like it.....

Jo - Ok name. Prefer Joe.
Toby - I like this.
Alexander - OK, I can't object to this name.
Will - a/a
Zachary - Possibly a teensy bit chav but I still like it and I don't know any so I say USE it.

Ruby - Sorry, chav NOW. a Ten yr old Ruby is posh. Baby Ruby is chav.
Katie - OK - not chav.
Emelia - hmmm Emilia? or Amelia? OK.
Fe nella - Fenella. Interesting. I quite like this one.
Amelia - ok but Camellia like the flower is sounding a lot more intersting to me right now. def not chav tho

KnitterInTheNW · 06/04/2008 20:21

I'm Katie. And I'm lovely

I've always loved it.

Roobie · 06/04/2008 20:21

Alexander is the best - a fine name and indicative of parents with supreme style, class and taste

Drusilla · 06/04/2008 20:22

I f ouy name a boy Jo I think people will always assume he is a girl

ScaryHairy · 06/04/2008 20:31

None of those names are really awful, and God knows I have heard some terrible names lately...

Joshua, Finlay and Zachary all seem a bit too "trendy" for my liking. I think that they will be chavvy before too long.

I like Joe and Alexander, and Will.

Toby is one of my best friends' names and we have noticed that a disturbing number of dogs are called Toby. It can be rather disconcerting to go to the park and hear your name yelled from every direction!

Amelia/Emilia are both great, but very common (one of them is my daughter's name).

Fenella makes me think of that girl in Riders (the Jilly Cooper novel) - not sure whether that is a plus or not.

I think Ruby is a bit... overused, although I do love it.

Katie is ok, although prefer Kate, as it is better for all ages IMO.

bluenosesaint · 06/04/2008 20:49

Monty - very public schoolboy
Joshua - ok, although very popular (whether that is an issue or not is up to you)
Finlay - No strong feelings either way
Charlie - Cute but more for a rabbit
Jo - has to be spelt Joe for a boy and according to my 8yo all the naughty boys are called Joe
Toby - Cute. I like this one.
Alexander - Good strong name. Prefer the shortening Xander to Alex (Alex is very over-used here)
Will - Good strong name, but would definitely use William
Zachary - Love this. Not overly popular around here, and i love the shortened form Zac

Ruby - Lots and lots of Ruby's being born. Cute name. Very fashionable.
Katie - Love Katie. Versatile and can be called Kate as she grows.
Emelia - Looks like you can't spell
Fe nella - Very posh
Amelia - Like this, but again, verrrrry popular around these parts. Love the name Millie.

My favourites of your list are Zachary or William for a boy and Katie or Amelia (Millie) for a girl.

peacelily · 06/04/2008 21:00

All ok none chavvy.

Monty and Will v public school boy

Alex and zach are nice shortened versions

Finlay is the best boys name

fenella is the most unusual and nicest girls name IMO

Tutter · 06/04/2008 21:04

monty pretentious

unless you are related to the monarchy

fitfox · 06/04/2008 21:04

I like all of them.

My youngest is called Monty so that's obviously the best boys name

Two poster have said there are loads of Fennellas. How strange, I have ever met one!

I like Joe and Alexander (best diminutive of this is Xan much less used than Xander) and Amelia the best of the girls. i do know loads of Rubys.

Novicecamper · 06/04/2008 21:07

None are chavvy imo.

Katie is lovely - especially if short for Katharine and can be shortened to Kate when older.
That's the only girls name I like on your list.

Of the boys names I only really like William.
Monty and Toby are like dogs names I think (although my boys' hairdresser is called Toby!).

niceglasses · 06/04/2008 21:07

None chavvy cos chav doesn't exist. Its just a concept to keep the so called lower classes away from others.

Feel for your favourite and call the child that.

lljkk · 06/04/2008 21:09

I know several pets named Monty.
Fenella sounds like a type of pasta.
On your list I like Alexander and Katie (Katherine) best.
