Jacob or Thiago?
Jacob is biblical and English. Thiago is Spanish/Portuguese so more international and means the same as Jacob.
Which would you chose and why? To go with Noah.

Jacob - he'll not spend his life spelling it out for people.

If I were naming my own DS I’d go for Jacob because we have no Spanish/Portuguese connection so Thiago would be weird. If you are Spanish I’d probably go for Diego over Thiago as easier to spell.

GreenFairies · 31/05/2024 09:07

Will the baby have Spanish / Portuguese heritage?

TeenDivided · 31/05/2024 09:09

Assuming you are Spanish, what about your partner?
If you live in Britain I would go with Jacob, with maybe a Spanish middle name.

It would be a bit strange to have one child with a popular British sounding name, and one not, if living in the UK.

KirstenBlest · 31/05/2024 09:09

Thiago suggest Portuguese or Brazilian heritage. If you are living in the UK he'll get various pronunciations and spellings. If you are in Spain or Portugal Jacob might get various pronunciations and spellings.

If you are in Spain, I'd use the Spanish equivalent, Tiago/Diego.

both are lovely, I would go with Jacob unless you have Portuguese heritage. I also think Jacob goes better with Noah. What about Jago?

LemonCitron · 31/05/2024 11:02

Jacob- otherwise he'll spend his life having to spell it (assuming you live in England). I have a friend who named his son Jorge and it's a pain in the arse for him.

Bells3032 · 31/05/2024 11:04

If you live in the UK i'd go for Jacob as Thiago isn't common here and he'll have to spend his life spelling it out.

If you plan to live in a Spanish speaking country go with Thiago

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 31/05/2024 22:05

Jacob is an obvious sibset pairing with Noah - both popular, short/simple and Biblical. why give one child a name that will be misspelt and mispronounced when the other one will have an easy time of it in comparison?

Obviously if you live in a country where Thiago is as popular as Noah or Jacob isn’t as well known, then ignore my comment!

Moreteaandchocolate · 31/05/2024 22:40

I like Jacob best :)

CJ0374 · 31/05/2024 22:43

How is Thiago pronounced? My brain says Th-ee-ago or Tee-aago but could be completely wrong? 🤔

Tee-AH-go, like Santiago

I agree with others if living in the U.K. I would go for Jacob which is a lovely name.

In that case, I would go for Tiago over Thiago as Thiago is open to mispronunciation (if you’re in the UK).

BobbyBiscuits · 02/06/2024 09:02

I love Thiago. It's really cute and sounds like someone who'd be a real adventurer.
Jacob reminds me of cream crackers, and old school characters from the bible etc. so I'm not a fan.
