If I can't think of a boy's name, think it means we're having a girl?

Ok, I know its as "old wifey" as you can get, but honestly, last time I couldn't think of a nice girl's name, and we got a boy. This time there is not a boy's name under the sun that will do.

I had a friend who had the same thing. Do you think you subconsciously know? Or is it all rubbish?

No, we couldn't decide on a boy's name and got a boy! We had a list as long as your arm for a girl too!

meemar · 04/04/2008 15:20

When I was pg both times we had lists of girls names we loved and could not agree on boys names at all.

I have 2 sons. They did both end up with names though

osyth · 04/04/2008 15:20

I think you are right. I'm not even pregnant yet but I know that when we have baby no2 it will be a boy because we both agree on the name Rory but I change my mind about girls names from day to day. I subconsciously knew that ds was a boy even though we had a girls name picked too.

bohemianbint · 04/04/2008 15:22

Ha, so that pretty much blows that theory then. Better pull our fingers out and find a decent boy's name then!

Well I wasn't worried about boy's names as I KNEW I was having a girl. Laura.

DS really wouldn't suit being called Laura!!

bohemianbint · 04/04/2008 15:23

oops, x-post osyth!

Turns out shes not a he after all lol

Same thing goes with other dc so maybe its right

3andnomore · 04/04/2008 23:28

I always found it far easier to pick girlsnames, tbh....and I have 3 boys...so, girlsname weren't that useful to me, lol!

Flibbertyjibbet · 04/04/2008 23:42

Nope, we had a name for ds1 that would do for boy or girl depending on the spelling. (The ILs spell it the girls way but thats another thread )
For ds2 we just couldn't think of a 2nd boys name we liked as much but had a few girls ones lined up.
So 2 days old the nurses come round to do the hearing test, ask his name and I say 'he doesn't have a name yet'.
'But you've had 9 months to think of one!!'
'Er, yes, and its Natalie'

That evening DP came and I was all post section and hormonal and missing ds1 and he wore me down to his choice of boys name that I've never really liked. Thats also another thread

Last time we had a boys and girls name picked out and we ended up with a boy. This time we didn't even discuss boys names, decided on a girls name and have found out we are having a girl so I think sometimes you do know!

Peachy · 05/04/2008 10:25

Took us ages to think of boys names for the babies.... wehad all bvoys. if only it were so easy to predict LOL

Think girls names are easiest- much more variety- but after 4 boys I would think that

mindalina · 05/04/2008 10:25

We had a list of girls names we loved as long as my arm, but not a single boy's name - yes we had a boy I did have a dream very early on in my pregnancy where I gave birth to a baby boy, which I think was a bit of a tip-off

MadameCh0let · 05/04/2008 10:50

When I was on babycentre April 05 birth board I did an informal survey on the people who weren't finding out the sex from a sonogram.

I think women's guesses aren't always right, but if they have a strong feeling one way or the other, they are right about 85% percent of the time.

That was the result of my small and informal study of about 150 people. I entered their names onto a spreadsheet and everything. I was really interested in the connection between gut instinct and being right.

motherinferior · 05/04/2008 10:52

Nope, I couldn't think of a girl's name in my second pregnancy. Wurbled and wurbled.

Admittedly I did think I'd given birth to a boy for about 30 seconds, but that's the effect of gas and air and the enormously swollen labia new girls have.

PortAndLemon · 05/04/2008 10:57

We found it far more diffcult to think of a boy's name when we were having DS, and far more difficult to think of a girl's name when we were having DD.

becklespeckle · 05/04/2008 14:13

Well with DS1 & 2 I had no girl's names, only boys. There was not a girl's name that was 'right'.

So naturally when I was pg again and could only think of boy's names I assumed I was having another son - I was wrong! Thankfully we had a girl's name we sort of liked and it suits her perfectly.

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 05/04/2008 20:13

We have struggled to think of names for girls while we like so many boys names - which has convinced us now that we are going to have a boy! Don't mind either way, but I guess after reading this we are going to have to start thinking a little harder about girls names!
