Frank is lovely, but I would register as Francis to give some options throughout life.

Fontainebleau007 · 18/05/2024 15:37

I agree Francis to give him a choice later on

RogueFemale · 18/05/2024 15:45

Francis

JimPansy · 18/05/2024 18:00

Frank

Sandysandwich · 18/05/2024 18:02

Frank is a good solid name on it's own, has the option of Frankie if he wants and really doesn't need Francis stuck on the certificate to never be used.

Notreat · 18/05/2024 18:14

I'd go with Frank. I think it's a name in itself now

Deipara · 18/05/2024 18:14

Frank is a great solid name 👌

Moreteaandchocolate · 18/05/2024 18:20

I prefer Frank. Francis sounds feminine to me because I know a few Frances’s.

ginasevern · 18/05/2024 18:22

I'd go with Francis then he has the option. He'll probably be called Frank anyway.

AdaColeman · 18/05/2024 18:25

I'd use Francis as the registration name, to give him a choice later.

BabyRace · 18/05/2024 18:44

Going against the grain here, but as someone who has a proper name on my birth certificate that I've never used, put Frank. I'm in ny 30s and I'm going to change it to the name I'm called by. If he wants "options" as an adult, he can choose whatever he wants to be called.

shoopshoopdedoo · 18/05/2024 20:29

I love the name Frank! I usually fall in the “proper name on BC” camp, so I’d go with Francis, but I think using Frank as the proper name is fine. It seems like a name in its own right, unlike a lot of diminutives.

RuthW · 18/05/2024 23:20

Definitely Francis

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 18/05/2024 23:27

Neither are my personal cup of tea but of the two , definitely Francis. It makes me think of elegant French kings. I know Frank is trendy now for toddlers but it makes me think of my Grandad’s mates at the bookies or on the allotments. Plus gives him the choice and all that jazz.

Usernamewassavedsuccessfully · 18/05/2024 23:30

I really don't like Francis, so I would definitely just have Frank.

DramaAlpaca · 18/05/2024 23:59

Francis is nice.

MonsteraMama · 19/05/2024 00:15

Francis is awful so I'd go with Frank. It's a name in it's own right now anyway.

Rockmehardplace · 19/05/2024 00:17

I’m normally on the side of putting the formal name on the birth certificate, but think Frank stands on its own as a name, plus it’s highly unlikely he would opt for francis these days.

NuffSaidSam · 19/05/2024 00:22

I really like kids having a long name and a short name, so I'd probably go for Francis, but not if you'll never, ever use it. There's only a point in having it if you're going to use at least occasionally.

MillsAndBalloons · 19/05/2024 00:58

Francis is a bloody terrible name. Unless he's gonna be born at like 50 years old.

Frank is kinda cool though, I think it can stand as a solid name on its own. He could go by Frankie.

OneLemonOrca · 19/05/2024 01:06

I thought Frances was a girls name

NuffSaidSam · 19/05/2024 01:46

OneLemonOrca · 19/05/2024 01:06

I thought Frances was a girls name

Frances is a girls name

Francis is a boys name

user1492757084 · 19/05/2024 07:50

Francis and Frank are both solid names.
You could do either with confidence.

I would not register him as Frankie as that sounds too cutesy childish for when he is 35.

timoteigirl · 19/05/2024 08:09

I prefer Francis officially even if calling him Frank or Frankie.

TheSandgroper · 20/05/2024 12:26

Someone I knew as a child as Frank now goes by Francis and is very well known is his field. Either work well with his surname.

But I vote for Francis on the certificate. It’s a proper name (and don’t I sound like my grandmother?)
