Jay or Jae or Jane for a middle name?!

Hi! I'm planning my first baby and on the chance it's a girl I have the name Melody chosen.
For a middle name it's between Jane or Jay/Jae. My partner's mum is called Jane but I kind of prefer Jay after the blue Jay bird 🐦

I thought we could say we took inspiration from her name? What sounds better: Melody Jane or Melody Jay

I like MJ as a Nickname too 😊 Spiderman fan

Hahaha my partner pointed out the Homer J Simpson episode too and that made me laugh because we love the Simpsons.

I know Jay is more of a boy name but kind of unisex and I just like the idea of the jay bird as it's so pretty.
My mum is called Vicky so a very long stretch to say Jay is Jane & Vicky mashed together? 😂😂😂

Melody Victoria Jane sounds lovely.

Jane and Vicky mixed is Jacky. Not Jay.

Melody Jane is great, Melody Jane Victoria is good too

Jaye is the female version. It's lovely.

My mum's name is Vicky, not Victoria (my nan must have preferred the Nickname as a full name instead) :)

Melodie Jane is faminine and smart.
Or Jane Melodie.

Use Victor for a son.

Fifthtimelucky · 19/05/2024 14:01

Definitely Jane.

I think of Jay as a boy's name (I have a feeling one of the Osmond brothers was a Jay). And Jae is awful.

I rather like Joy as a middle name though.

megadreamer8 · 19/05/2024 14:07

Yeah. I'm now leaning towards Jane but I do find it quite a plain name, it's okay but a bit boring. Jay, despite being boyish, felt more cute and I love the bird association. Also could say it was inspired by Jane, and a way of not leaving my mum out.
Joy is nice actually, not sure if it suits Melody though. Thank you :)

Jayne.

JimPansy · 21/05/2024 08:58

Jayne is horrible. Jane is lovely.

BreadAndWineFeelingFine · 21/05/2024 09:00

Melody Jane, most definitely.

Melody Vicky Jane also works well.

Thank you. What about Melody Jane Victoria? Or Melody-Jane Victoria

I personally don't like hyphenated names.

Melody Jane Victoria is nice.

Yeah. I'm not a huge fan either of doing that but someone suggested it 🥲 thank you.

Do you think 11 syllables is a bit too much for a name?

No I don't think so. No one is actually going to use all her names.

I have three names.

NetMum2 · 21/05/2024 14:24

I think if it was me I’d just use the name Melody as the first name and have both mum’s names in the middle. So Melody Jane Vicky or Melody Vicky Jane 😊

NetMum2 · 21/05/2024 14:29

If it helps, since my second son was born earlier this year, no one has asked what his middle name is other than his grandparents. I’m wondering if you’d prefer to use both your MIL and mum’s actual names..?

Yeah I'm thinking either Melody Jane Vicky or Melody Jane Victoria :)

Yep! Either Melody Jane Vicky or Melody Jane Victoria.

9 syllables if I go for Vicky or 11 if I go for Victoria

Melody Jane

OR

Melody Jade

Names have associations...Jade is forever tarnished in my mind by Jade Goody from Big Brother.
Jay is the missing teenager in Ibiza

Jane... ''Plain Jane''

I still think Jimberly for the win! {Or Jimberliegh}
