If he's late he'll potentially be a Leo star sign if that impacts choice 😂

Initially we were quite set on Eddie but I keep wavering, my grandmother has already said she'll call him Teddy as well which I don't want to be taken up by anyone else, a pet name from her is fine but I would really want him just being called Eddie in general.

I know of a Woody who's an Edward.
Im the opposite really I don't like the options of lots of nn because some I don't like.

A little pedantic but ok 😅 Ed, Eddy, Ted, Teddy, Ward, Ned, Woody… I don’t really know of many names that have at least 7 nicknames! Obviously no one needs that many options, but it’s nice to know he has them. Maybe he would want to be Teddy as a small kid, then go by Ted as a teen, and Edward when he enters the working world! At least he has some say in his name.

I think, if you really dislike some of the nicknames OP, Leo is gorgeous and definitely your best bet! I love Theo too, but know that is often associated with Ted/Teddy, so could run into the same issues.

But Ted, Ned and Woody? I mean it's not Tedward or Nedward..? Or Edwood?

I’m not sure if my experiences are typical or not however I’d be cautious with Leo. It is by far the most common boys name I’ve come across recently. I was in one toddler group where there were 6 boys and 3 were called Leo. At the swimming club I attend there are only 3 other boys and one is another Leo. At nursery Leo is the only duplicated name in my DS’s room.

Obviously a tiny sample so maybe worth asking around to see if others have experienced the same or if it’s just a random quirk.

. Ned is from “miNe EDward “ from medieval times, Woody as some people pronounce it “EdWood”, nickname Bear has evolved from the Teddy nn etc.

I bet you are one of those who says Molly can’t be a nn for Mary, Daisy for Margaret, Sally for Sarah, Jim for James, Hal for Henry etc - despite them being used as nn’s for those names for hundreds of years 🤣 In the past when half your family was named Mary or Edward etc, you’d need half a dozen nn choices!
