Need a name for DD2. Really like Adeline NN: Addy or Ada.
My worry is that Adeline is becoming trendy so will date badly. Kind of like Ottilie, Willow etc. I also love Margot but I feel like I've met about 4 in the past year. Whilst beautiful names I just don't Want her being one of four in her class.

Ultimately looking for a beautiful, timeless name with appeal.

Some names we like on the list:

Adeline (Ada)
Rose
Margot
Camilla
Eloise
Camille/Camilla (cami)

June/Juno
Florence
Elisabeth
Adelaide (Dee Dee, Heidi, Lady)
Adeline

What are your thoughts Mumsnet?

Rose or June. I just think Orla goes with a single syllable name.

I think it's Adeline as is Caroline ...I think it can get muddled

Probably depends on location.

Needanewname42 · 13/05/2024 00:54

Orla is stunning 😍 one of my favourite girls names, its simple, elegant but really stunning.
I'd stick with something simple to go with it.

From your list I'd go Rose or Rosa.
Others Freya, Heather, Hazel, Faye, Iona, Ella, Lara,

Don't pick an Irish name unless you're Irish. Your daughter will spend her whole life spelling out her name

DramaAlpaca · 13/05/2024 01:10

OP, are you Irish or do you have Irish ancestry? Because what I might suggest will depend on that.

@pocketaces she's already got a DD with an Irish name. I'm wondering whether or not it's pronounced correctly, which is why I'm asking the question above. English people (and I am one, but in Ireland) absolutely butcher Irish names, they cannot say them correctly. Orla is a beautiful name in a rhotic accent where the 'r' is sounded, but in most English accents it is not pretty at all, unfortunately.

LauderSyme · 13/05/2024 01:47

I think all names date really to some extent because the tides of naming fashions come and go. I don't think Adeline would be any more susceptible to that than many other names.

I like Eloise best from your list.

Annabelle
Candida
Charlotte
Constance
Elise
Emmeline
Enya
Faith
Henriette
Ida
Jemima
Lucinda
Maude
Tabitha
Viola
Yolanda

Candida is a type of yeast that often causes thrush.. not something to name a little girl. 🧐

As Orla is an lrish name l think it's best to stick with that. These are only a few samples but l would check out lots of lrish names as they will go best with Orla.

DH is Irish. I am from England. I had lots of the family teaching me how to say Orla and pronounce the 'r' don't worry 🤦🏻‍♀️ 😂
I am not interested in an Irish theme at all.

I know you've said you don't really want an Irish name, but I've been watching Bodkin on Netflix and one of the characters is called Dove. It is a short form of a full Irish name (that I can't remember!!!). Dove would be on my list for a girl.
