Well found out this morning I'm pregnant

Have already got 2 DD's named Cecily-Fay and Isabella Faith.
And 2 DS's called Jack Luca and Cerrin James.
I love choosing names, tbh!

As you might be able to guess, I like unusual, quite exotic names, usually quite italian. What names do you like that might fit my criteria...both male and female?

My husband is keen on irish names...

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TheodoresMummy · 03/04/2008 00:41

Irish - Fergus, Finley

Can't think of any Italian, ATM...

My current fav boys name is Gabriel. DH not as keen and a I am a bit miffed to be honest because I love it so much (not that i'm pregnant again yet !!)

Rosbo · 03/04/2008 00:43

Gabriel seems more female than male to me!
Nice name though!
Finlay is a GORGEOUS name.

For a girl I suggest Verity, Romilly or Clodagh.

For a boy I second Fergus, and suggest Tadhg, Cathal, Fintan, Malachy, Diarmuid or Lorcan.

stleger · 03/04/2008 15:30

MadamC - I thought we had decided against Cathal? Gabrielle or Gabriella is the girly Gabriel (he is the archangel in the Bible). I like Malachy. I flirted with Oliver and Susannah when I was considering, the names dh vetoed.

MadameCh0let · 03/04/2008 16:15

Ha ha, well, only people who live in Ireland have had the pleasure of reading about the perverted hobbies of Cathal O'Searcaigh!

vicsta · 03/04/2008 16:34

Woo-hoo! Congratulations. I love baby name threads and Italian names - think you may have posted on mine actually. Anyway, about these Irish names, unless its blatantly obvious I never know how to pronounce them. Any chance of a lesson on the ones you've suggested MadamC? Tadhg, Clodagh, Cathal??? I'm really starting to like Finlay & Fintan & all Fin like variations. Gabriel is lovely, was on my list till dp vetoed. Shortened to Gabe, I love it. Italian names more for boys I think, couldn't really find any girls ones I liked. Marco, Georgio, Nico (bandying Nico about like fun, stole it off someone on my thread - now top of my list) Gianfranco, Giuseppe (maybe a bit too Italian, couldn't use it myself)

Can't help it Hatrick, really sorry - you have such good taste. Promise not to tell anyone else ever, ever, ever again! It's not every day you here the perfect name - it really has gone to the top of my list. Thanks x

MadameCh0let · 03/04/2008 20:00

Vicsta, Clodagh would probably be the easiest to use in the UK. It rhymes with skoda, but don't let that put you off. It's classy in Ireland, honest.

Tadhg is said like the firt syllable of Tiger!!! I kind of like that... grrrr.

Cathal is harder to write. It's like co'hul. Rhymes with Bottle said in an east london accent. I'm killing it aren't I??

LaundryFairy · 03/04/2008 20:03

What about a Carla for a DD? Could do worse than look like Carla Bruni...

Thanks for the lesson Madame, not getting the Cathal thing, think you have to hear it to appreciate. Like Clodagh now though. To my Welsh eyes it looked more Clod - ach!

MadameCh0let · 04/04/2008 17:30

ARe you Welsh? My Grandma was welsh so I almost felt entitled to call my daughter Olwen... I didn't though, because everybody kept saying "oh like from Lord of The Rings"........ Not many Olwens about clearly.

MrsMattie · 04/04/2008 18:04

Some more Irish names...

Boys: Cian, Cillian, Dara, Phelim (Fay-lim), Oisin (Oh-sheen), Niall (Ny-all), Proinsias (Prarn-shas), Ronan, Donal, Cormac, Enda, Finbar, Tierney

Girls: Grainne (Grawn-ya - means Grace), Aibhlinn (Ave-leen), Aoife (Eefa), Aisling (Ash-ling), Mairead (Mah-rade or Muh-rade depending on part of Ireland), Roisin (Ro-sheen, means little rose), Saorise (Seer-sha, means liberty/freedom), Sorch (So-ra-ca)

MrsMattie · 04/04/2008 18:05

sorry, should be Saoirse

MadameCh0let · 04/04/2008 19:17

ANother one that seems quite 'trendy' at the moment here is Síofra. It is gaelic for fairy! I like that. My dd's dancing teacher called her baby Síofra. SHEfra
I wouldn't call my own child Siofra, but I kind of like it in an I'm a gaelic hippy way.
