what does everyone think of Tyler for a boy? Is it very common or chavvy?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
southeastastra · 02/04/2008 22:54

it's too descriptive, like he'd be good at tiling.

Ledodgy · 02/04/2008 22:54

Imo it's a bit chavvy but if you love it go for it.

NorthernLurker · 02/04/2008 22:56

Sorry - ugh!

Flubdub · 02/04/2008 22:56

Chavvy Im afraid. VERY.
Which is a shame, because its a nice name. It was my favourite choice for ds when I was pregnant (3 yrs ago) but decided against it as my friend said it sounded like a dogs name.
Tbh, Im glad I didnt pick it now becuase it sounds chavvy. Someone who lives round here called her ds Tyler last year, and Iv heard several comments from people, saying that he doesnt stand a chance with a name like that.
Not nice, (and also not true) I doubt your name affects how you get on with life.

suwoo · 02/04/2008 22:58

Sorry, chavvy round these parts IMO.

janett · 02/04/2008 23:01

thanks for all the comments, my friend wants to use it and i am trying in a nice way to change her mind but there is nothing else she likes.

Flubdub · 02/04/2008 23:02

Show her this thread.

Servalan · 02/04/2008 23:04

Come on people - up to the friend surely!!

PeggySioux · 02/04/2008 23:04

Or, you could try in a nice way to let your friend call her son whatever she wants to call him, and to smile politely and say "how lovely". In a nice way.

NorthernLurker · 02/04/2008 23:05

janett's friend - you must think again! What about Riley? I like that a lot more.

NorthernLurker · 02/04/2008 23:05

Nah - the friend and the friend's son must be saved from themselves

MadameCh0let · 02/04/2008 23:06

Chavy sorry.

I love the Americans. But anything that is American is perceived as being chavy here.

Even say, Quincy, a figure at the Boston Tea Party. I just think, God, stupid American name, parents must be chavs.

GooseyLoosey · 02/04/2008 23:07

Yes it is up to the friend but it really does have "chavvy" connotations.

bluenosesaint · 02/04/2008 23:10

Nowt to do with you Janett.

If your friend likes it, then she likes it ...'chavvy' or not

janett · 02/04/2008 23:35

true bluenosesaint but a name is for life. there was one other name mentioned Rylan think thats the spelling.

OP posts:
bluenosesaint · 02/04/2008 23:45

Yes Janett, but it is not your child to name. Its hers ...

colander · 02/04/2008 23:50

Chavvy, but not your child!

horsish · 02/04/2008 23:51

chavvy

Rosbo · 03/04/2008 02:12

Chavvy, sorry.

hotchocscot · 03/04/2008 02:36

yuk, chavvy IMO too. Show her this thread IF she has honestly asked for your opinion/advice. If she has not and its just your concern over the name, not much you can do i'm afraid.

MadameCh0let · 03/04/2008 09:40

Would she go for Tycho. That is the name of a composer, but because it ends in O she might like the trendiness of it.

I went to school with a Tycho and he was so fabulously eccentric.

harleyd · 03/04/2008 09:42

i like it

cyteen · 03/04/2008 10:36

I don't like it, but it's up to her in the end.

I did briefly know a very sweet little boy called Tayo, not sure that's any better!

MadameCh0let · 03/04/2008 20:19

Is it Téo? That's just French for Theo and it's in the top five boys names in France.

I quite like it meself!
