Just can’t decide which for baby girl. Thoughts? Like idea of something a bit unique/ nickname options, but also don’t mind popular over potential marmite name.

Thanks so much

I'd go Isabella rather than Isobel. My mum was Isabella but hated it so she went by Isobel but I think her full name was nicer! Sophie is nice too, as is Tabitha. Not keen on Elodie, sorry!

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 05/05/2024 03:10

Agree with pp. ^

oldnorsesaga · 05/05/2024 03:12

I like Tabitha, Sophie and Elodie. I would picked Tabitha as my favorite.

NetMum2 · 05/05/2024 04:15

I like Sophie (and Sophia/Sofia) best, followed by Isabella and Elodie, if it goes with your surname. Tabitha I’m not as keen on.

garlictwist · 05/05/2024 04:45

I'm French and Elodie is quite a middle aged name there so it sounds odd to me on a baby.

Tabitha is a bit la di da. I like Sophie. Classic and timeless.

Moreteaandchocolate · 05/05/2024 07:40

I love Sophie - lovely simple timeless name.

Isabel is my second favourite- so lovely, if you don’t mind how overused it is at the moment between all the variations.

Elodie - is beautiful- less commonly used but with that might come the possibility of people mishearing it / mistaking it for Emily / Melody etc. I like that it can become Ellie if she wants though.

I don’t think I’d like to be called Tabitha as an adult - I don’t know why but I’d cringe a little introducing myself as Tabitha at work - sounds a bit prissy maybe? Tabs is nice for her mates but not a formal nn for work etc imo.

GoodVibesHere · 05/05/2024 07:49

Tabitha is a cat's name in my opinion, with nickname Tabby. I just can't see it as anything other than a cat name. Samantha is a nice altrrnative if you like the 'tha' ending. With Sam or Sammy as a nn.

Berlinlover · 05/05/2024 07:50

Sophie and Isobel/Isabella are beautiful names. I’m not keen on the other two at all.

Pipecleanerrevival · 05/05/2024 07:53

Sophie and Isobel are boring and overused

tabitha is a cats name.

Elodie is elegant and a bit different so it’s easily the best choice.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 05/05/2024 07:53

DS would've been Tabitha if he was a girl, I'd avoid Isobel/Isabella etc every third girl seems to be nn Bella. Sophie is classic. The only Elodie I know is Belgian and it sounds so much prettier with that accent than a British one

ICanFixHim · 05/05/2024 07:59

I disagree with PPs about Isobel re Isabella. They're very different names and Isabella is a bit frilly and less classic than Isobel.

I would go with Elodie out of your choices, it's lovely.
Sophie is nice but boring.
I like Tabitha as well.

WildCherryBlossom · 05/05/2024 08:04

Do you have an attractive surname? Because if you go with Isobel or Isabella or any of those variations she will likely be known at school by firstname surname. There are at least 2 in each of my children's classes. Sophie is a similar situation. They are both beautiful names which is why they are super popular but they are always known as Sophie Smith or Sophie Jones or whatever.

I absolutely love Tabitha and there definitely aren't that many around. I meet the occasional Elodie, definitely risen in popularity in the last 10 years or so.

Star11111 · 05/05/2024 08:23

I have a Tabitha and she gets “Tibs” from her friends at school. Her middle name is Jane so she gets T.J as a nickname from family. She prefers we call her Tabitha though as she likes her full name. I find slightly older people associate her name with witches (which she finds amazing and loves this about her name as she thinks it’s mysterious and cool) but her generation don’t have a clue about any of that. The cat association is sometimes there as well but again she loves that. The name means “graceful” or “doe-like” in Hebrew. I teach at university and have met two others before so it’s not uncommon but not super popular either. She doesn’t know any others personally so that’s nice.

There are two Isobel’s and three Sophie’s in her class (as well as many Sophia’s) so I would probably avoid those as I feel there are more common for their age group.

Elodie is also nice but it depends on surname, I think, as it flows better with some surnames than others.

MumChp · 05/05/2024 08:27

I would go with Elodie or Tabitha. So many Sophie/Sophia's and Isabella/Isobel's at school.

FloofyBear · 05/05/2024 08:30

I also have a Tabitha - she's always loved her name, she's a Tabby

GreenMarigold · 05/05/2024 08:32

I like all of them but Tabitha the most! Beautiful.

WhereAreWeNow · 05/05/2024 08:43

Elodie

mitogoshi · 05/05/2024 08:49

@Star11111

Look up bewitched (the programme) on you tube, the daughter witch is Tabitha

Bouledeneige · 05/05/2024 09:41

I have an Elodie Isobel in her 20s. It was unusual when she was born though there are a few more now. And French people said it was an old persons name like Agatha and that it wasn't pronounced correctly by English people (should have an accent on the 'e'). That hasn't affected her in any way as we don't know any French people. It gets shortened to Elle or Els and Elodina as a pet name

FlyingPizzaMonkey · 05/05/2024 09:47

Isobel and Sophie are so overused. Sophie is a bit nice but dull.

I don’t like Tabitha at all. Elodie is nice.

Sam10123 · 05/05/2024 11:00

Thank you so much everyone. That’s really helpful 🥰 x

None are unusual, let alone unique.

Tabitha ‘tabs’ - not keen on Tabs or Tabby
Sophie - so many Sophias and Sofias
Isobel - Lots of Isabelles, Isabellas and Isabels
Elodie - looks pretty but it blends into all the El- names.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 05/05/2024 14:51

I like all four of them, although I prefer the spelling Isabel. I think Sophie might have the very slight edge for me.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 05/05/2024 15:03

Sophie. Definitely.

DramaAlpaca · 05/05/2024 15:04

I like them all, with the exception of Tabitha.

Probably because my favourite ever cat was called Tabitha, so it's odd to me on a human.
