Just wondering if I’m missing something as it’s sounding like a great name to me. Yet it’s only number 1785 in the latest ONS statistics.

I like it as a name personally.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 29/04/2024 20:51

It had its day at one time. There was a very early novel called Clarissa.

Needmorelego · 29/04/2024 20:52

I associate it with an annoying Enid Blyton character 😂
(never met one in real life)

GoodVibesHere · 29/04/2024 20:54

Because it's awful! Frilly and harsh at the same time.

When did it peak? I genuinely don’t know. Is it associated with a particular time period?

Clarissa explains it all was a great programme! I associate it with being aged and American.

Moreteaandchocolate · 29/04/2024 20:55

I personally find it a bit frilly and fussy. Prefer Clara.

HairyToity · 29/04/2024 20:55

I love it. I grew up with Clarissa knows it all. DH vetoed it though.

I'd think 1940's (Clarissa Dickson-Wright)

dressagediva84 · 29/04/2024 20:55

I have no idea but I'm sure someone can explain it all.

caitlinsjoy · 29/04/2024 20:57

Clarissa Explains It All.

doubleshift · 29/04/2024 20:58

Because it's not a very nice name.

NarnianQueen · 29/04/2024 21:02

It makes me thinks of Hannibal Lecter saying "Clariiiiiiiiiiiccceee" which is unfair because it's a different name. Still think it though

Whatssthepointtt · 29/04/2024 21:03

Because it's not nice?

MaryFuckingFerguson · 29/04/2024 21:04

It’s horrid.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 29/04/2024 21:05

Clarissa the novel was 1748, and was meant to be about a standard young lady, so it's an old classic

MalibuBarbieDreamHouse · 29/04/2024 21:06

Feels very dated to me

SublimeLemonHead · 29/04/2024 21:06

Because she'd constantly be asked to explain it all.

Same here

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 29/04/2024 21:11

It's old fashioned but what popular girls name isn't at the moment? I like it 👍

dreamfield · 29/04/2024 21:12

It is a really horrible name, sorry.

HouseofHolbein · 29/04/2024 21:13

I used to like it then I worked with a Clarissa and she was a cow so it's a no from me 😊

SwedishEdith · 29/04/2024 21:13

It's frilly and prissy - sounds like a Boris Johnson girlfriend. No-one wants to lumber someone with that.

villamariavintrapp · 29/04/2024 21:15

Yes Hannibal connotations, frilly, clumsy sounding.. much prefer Clara or Larissa.

CorylusAgain · 29/04/2024 21:16

It's a name that to me is typical horsey posh girl. Its a rather fussy name.
