Hi!

I just wondered what people’s thoughts were on Henry/Theodore or Leo?

I love Leo, but feel like it’s not a whole name, and don’t like any of the long name versions.

loved Theodore when pregnant last time but the nicknames have become so popular.

Henry I feel like is a strong classic name and has a loose family tie but just feel like it’s a little boring/safe? And always think of Horrid Henry!

Open to views on the above names or suggestions in the same style! Thank you!

Leo is definitely a whole name! I am biased though because I have one 😊

I love Theodore but I agree it has become a little jaded with much use.

Henry is a great name, it's relatively uncommon and I don't think it's boring. Horrid Henry will recede into the distance once baby arrives.

Hugo? Emory?

Henry by a mile. There are lots of Theo/Theodores. Leo is ok.

RedCanna · 28/04/2024 22:32

The only problem with Leo is that it is quite popular although I hadn't realised that when I named him. He has always had namesakes at school etc.

Love all 3 names! I voted for Henry as it’s a strong classic that’s unlikely to date quickly. Theodore and Leo are also really lovely, but possibly a little more “of the moment” (in that their popularity has shot up quickly in recent years) if that matters to you? All three are currently popular, but that wouldn’t put me off personally.

Two of @Moreteaandchocolate 's suggestions are my Leo's middle names 🙂

I'm not so keen on Henry - having known an angry dog with that name!

I do like Leo and Theo as well as Milo (but not sure if the latter is a bit posh try hard).

Leo is a full name. It's great but very popular. Same goes for Henry.
I don't like Theo or Theodore.

They're all good names OP, you can't really go wrong.

You could also consider Hugo, which is quite similar to Leo and Theo, but doesn't have a long version.

Henry first thought is Henry Cavill good name
Leo is also fab as I'm a fan of charmed

SkaneTos · 29/04/2024 19:14

They are all good names! I voted for Leo.

The name Henry does not make me think of "Horrid Henry" is, but I'm not from the UK.

Stellardasher · 30/04/2024 12:20

Thank you all so much and for your thoughts on the names! I think we will likely go with Henry as it is my grandfathers middle name and will be a nice nod to family! You’ve all made me feel better about it!

I voted for Leo but all nice names!

PitterPatter3 · 30/04/2024 12:41

I have a Henry so that’s definitely my choice. Horrid Henry has honestly never been an issue at all. I’d never even given it much thought really.

NetMum2 · 01/05/2024 05:36

I voted for Henry. I think you’ll be surprised how few baby Henry’s you’ll meet. It might be popular, but as a percentage of all baby boys names it’s not that common. I’ve met more Theodore’s, Theo’s, Teddy’s and even a girl named Thea. There’s a website somewhere that shows popularity as a percentage which helped me to choose an even more popular name than Henry for my little boy!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/05/2024 13:37

Henry sounds much more classic than Leo or Theodore - I’ve met Henry’s of different ages whereas I’ve only met young Leo’s and Theodore’s ( I think those names were relatively uncommon 40/50 years ago even though they are traditional names).

Henry would definitely be my pick - I’m surprised it makes you think of Horrid Henry first though, if you don’t know any other Henry's in RL then I would have thought all the English Kings (especially Henry VIII or Shakespearean classic Henry V) would have sprung to mind first!
