We come from Greece, DD3 is due in a couple of months and we love love love the name Eva.

However, Eva in Greece is Eh-Va , not Ee-Va.

I am just wondering that if we go for Eva and we will correct people and explain that Eh-Va is the Greek pronounciation, would that be too challenging?

Will the poor kid have to correct everyone in her life?

I don’t know if the “Ee-Va” pronounciation is just a British thing and in all other countries in the Globe is Eh-Va, like in Greece? Can please people with non-British origins advise?

(We were also considering Ava as this will sound like Eh-Va in the Uk but Ava in Greece is Ah-Va… and all grandparents etc. in Greece will call her Ah-Va!)

my Eva is a teen now and we pronounce it Ee-va, but she very often gets mispronounced as Eh-va which is the Spanish, Portuguese and Italian way - we live in North America. Eva in general is less common here than UK though there are a few around, Ava very common, usually pronounced Ay-va.

Ava - the Greek pronunciation - is the prettiest.

I first met a woman called Ava who was Ah-va so I think of this as correct. Rhymes with Java.
Java is another attractive name.

To answer your actual question, yes Eh-va is a pronunciation used in many European countries, and others pronounce it even closer to Ey-va, ie how we'd pronounce Ava.
If your child is going to grow up in this country they may have to correct quite a lot of people on first meeting (eg starting school, doctor's waiting room), but it won't be too hard for people who see her often to pick up the correct pronunciation. Eg I know a Paula pn Paola, a Lene pn Len-uh (both the usual pronunciations in their countries of origin) and people tend not to need to be corrected more than once.
