Hi there,

expecting our first baby in a few months. We don’t know the gender.

the leading boy’s name is of irish origin.

for girls, we’ve a few options, the two front runners are Lucia (Loo-see-ah) or Clodagh (Clo-da - Irish origin).

middle name is likely to be Anne.

very undecided on which to go for- all advice welcomed!

Clodagh- beautiful name! Lucia is much more common.

Lucia.

Clodagh is so ugly. Makes me think of clods of earth.

I prefer Clodagh. I'm Irish too so it's familiar, I know a lovely Clodagh.
I wouldn't be sure what pronunciation of Lucia to use.

Never heard of Clodagh but it's beautiful!!

Currently wondering if I’m the horrible clodagh reference above 🤣

Have you ever run a call centre? If not, we're good :)

Maybe you're the lovely Clodagh @Cloeycat 😊

That's not how Clodagh is pronounced.

The Clod bit isn't pronounced like a clod of earth, it's pronounced Clod like Mode or showed, with ah on the end.

I’m Irish and I love Irish names but I don’t like Clodagh. I don’t like -gh ending names in general, I think they’re visually ugly. And something about Clodagh has always said “prizewinning dairy cow” to me, possibly it’s an association with Clover which is very bovine imo…

Anyway, back to the topic. I don’t love Lucia, it’s pretty but a bit insubstantial. Sorry, OP. But I see you are getting lots of positive comments on the names which is nice.

Could this be how you are pronouncing it potentially? It should rhyme with Yoda :)

I’m in NI too, so definitely know the right pronunciation. In my opinion a name rhyming with Yoda isn’t a good thing but each to their own - sorry OP!
