Initials will be Ear?

Would having the initials Ear bother you? I have a name that I love, but someone mentioned that it would spell Ear, and that could be a problem, especially if he gets his dad's ears that stick out? ( I personally love my DHs ears)

Thoughts?

I would probably add a second middle name, just in case :)

miniaturepixieonacid · 25/04/2024 13:12

No, I don't think many people would even notice. In situations where initials get used, he'll just be ER.

Moreteaandchocolate · 25/04/2024 14:56

It wouldn’t bother me, personally

Normandy144 · 25/04/2024 15:00

It's rare that all 3 initials are used, if anything it's ER. I wouldn't overthink. It's not like it spells any offensive or rude.

Illpickthatup · 25/04/2024 15:19

My DSD initial are ARM. I don't think it matters. No one really cares or will probably ever notice.

HappiestSleeping · 25/04/2024 15:20

My friends initials are SOD. Guess what his nickname is?

SeatonCarew · 25/04/2024 15:27

If his ears do stick out, some kid will pick up on it. I couldn't do that to my child.

Dirty?

My uncle was R. A. T. and I knew someone whose name was David Edward Andrew Davies. It would bother me, OP.

Ilovemyshed · 25/04/2024 15:40

It could be a problem in the workplace where initials are used all the time and all initials mostly. i would find a middle name with a consonant.

CabbageBearGoat · 25/04/2024 15:50

I went to school with an EAR! We were all quite jealous actually, those of us with unpronounceable initials. But then maybe it depends on age - we only found out at about 14 so it didn't turn into a nickname or anything. The fact we only found out at 14 but had been at school together all the way through probably tells you how frequently this comes up!

Booksandflowers · 25/04/2024 15:54

My child’s school make them initial their pe kits with embroidered initials. I guess you could, in that situation, just use ER.

chocomoccalocca · 25/04/2024 15:55

Kids will work it out I remember being at school and the conversations about what initials spelt out. I wouldn't do it

PilgorTheGoat · 25/04/2024 15:59

My grandfather took great pleasure in giving his children initials that spelt words, even adding in extra middle names when registering the births without telling his wife.

EAR is fine. One of mine is POP 🥤

SallyWD · 25/04/2024 16:06

It's really fine. No one will notice. A very close relative of mine has the initials ASS and I never noticed until he pointed it out to me!

You're not far out. He gets called Tiny. Sod, little sod, little, tiny. This also is funny as he is about 6'6. Of course most people assume his name is because of his size. But he had the name before he ever grew that big.

Watto1 · 25/04/2024 21:00

We ruled out a middle name for DS that would give him the initials JAW. I have a cousin with the initials ASS and another with the initials ARS and they did get their legs pulled at school

PilgorTheGoat · 25/04/2024 21:53

My initials used to be JAP and I tried to get them engraved on some AirPods and apple declined it as they do not allow racial slurs.

lovemycbf · 25/04/2024 22:00

I'm afraid it would bother me
I'd add another middle name to change it

sakura06 · 25/04/2024 22:15

I accidentally did this with my daughter! 🫣 She has a surname at the end so her full initials are different, but her first and middle names spell EAR. I only noticed when her bank sent her savings accounts statements to Miss EAR Surname!

user1492757084 · 26/04/2024 12:08

It's cute.
At worst EAR could turn out to be ironic if your child is deaf or has King Charles ears. (EAR appears within his name and he seems not bothered.)

David Davies. Why would you ever do that to a child? (teenager, adult etc)

PitterPatter3 · 01/05/2024 17:07

I don’t think it’s an issue at all. It’s not like WC or BO.

Boxerdor · 01/05/2024 17:09

Not at all. My sons are LEG. I know a child whose are MAD. Don’t think the kids have ever noticed. Doubt they even know each other middle names really
