Both nice but I prefer Jack. Congratulations!

Moreteaandchocolate · 19/04/2024 09:11

Love both, but Harry would be my pick - I would have used it myself if it worked with our surname better. It’s slightly less commonly used around here than Jack too.

theduchessofspork · 19/04/2024 09:15

Harry I think

Jack even more overdone. Both nice if you don’t mind the mega popularity

breezefromthesea · 19/04/2024 09:37

I also like Jacob.

And James?

Both lovely classic names. I slightly prefer Jack, but they're both great. Would also suggest Henry - biased as I have one !

babybrum · 19/04/2024 09:44

Harry

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/04/2024 09:47

Both nice. Jack slightly edges it.

KeepSmiling89 · 19/04/2024 09:49

Both lovely names...if I had to choose, I'd go with Jack.

I also like Jacob.

Jacob and James are also lovely and a little less commonly used, if that matters to you

breezefromthesea · 19/04/2024 10:04

The popularity doesn't worry me, but we have a 3 syllable name ending in son, so I'm think more short, one or two syllable first names.

breezefromthesea · 19/04/2024 10:05

Meant to say thinking

All lovely names but Jack , Harry and James are really common in my children’s nursery and schools, so we have lots of Jack R, Harry S etc

I would go for Jacob.

Uncooperativefingers · 19/04/2024 10:18

I prefer Jacob and James. But I generally prefer traditional names rather than ones derived from nicknames tbh. Jacob could quite easily be nicknamed Jack though I think?

Eze · 19/04/2024 10:19

Jack.

Uncooperativefingers · 19/04/2024 10:21

They (Jacob and James) have the same linguistic routes though. I think they both mean something like "follower" Hebrew (as in disciple), if that matters to you

breezefromthesea · 19/04/2024 09:39

And James?

The best boys name ever imo

shoopshoopdedoo · 19/04/2024 21:08

Love James, Harry and Jack - in that order. Not a fan of Jacob.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 19/04/2024 23:06

James is lovely - so classic and timeless with a variety of nn’s if he wants them. It’s by far the “safest” of your options in that regards.

I do have a soft spot for friendly sounding Jack as second choice ( although nothing wrong with Jacob and Harry as such).

DramaAlpaca · 20/04/2024 03:10

James is my absolute favourite, followed by Harry. For Harry, I'd have to go with the traditional Henry on the birth cert because I don't like diminutives as standalone names.

Jack is nice enough but I'm old enough to see it as a diminutive of John, even though I know it's a name in its own right these days.

Jacob is OK, but it doesn't really please me. I like Jake a lot, but would want Jacob on the bc as it's a diminutive... but I don't get excited about Jacob so I'd probably rule it out altogether.

breezefromthesea · 19/04/2024 09:39

And James?

Yes, James!

octoberfarm · 20/04/2024 03:20

Jack, but I like both!

RogueFemale · 20/04/2024 03:25

P.S. Kings' names are usually good. So, James is better than Jack, or Harry.

user1492757084 · 20/04/2024 04:02

Harry or James.

DappledThings · 20/04/2024 04:52

I wouldn't have either as a standalone name. John or Henry, known as Jack.or Harry. Probably John (Jack) as a first choice
