Elliott / Elliot

I am 20w with DS2. We had such a hard time with a boys name the first time around and ended choosing a name that is British and traditional but not at all popular. I like the name Elliott, which is quite different to that choice, but wonder if its very popular at the moment? Hard to tell as both Elliot and and Elliott are on or near the top 100 list, plus of course similar names like Elijah and Ellis and Elias.

Thanks for any thoughts!

It's used but relatively rare. I like it! (With one T)

Moreteaandchocolate · 18/04/2024 18:20

I really like it and only know one (12 year old). I don’t have a preference with the spelling.

Littletreefrog · 18/04/2024 18:33

Elliot with one T is a great name. I also like Ellis. Elijah is super common and makes me feel a bit squeamish, no idea why.

ChristmasLightsLover · 18/04/2024 18:34

We have an Elliott. He loves his name and how it is spelled. He was nearly a Max or Oliver. By the time we got to school there were 2 of the former and 3 of the latter! All very confusing.

Thanks everyone. I think we'd use two t's because I'm from Seattle originally and the name of the harbour I grew up on is Elliott Bay. But now I live in SE England, interesting that it's a popular but not overly used name.

Two Ts is usually for a surname not a first name

Orangejuicein · 18/04/2024 19:41

I wouldn’t say it’s that used, I know 2, one aged 6 one aged 2. Don’t know any Elijah’s, Ellis’s or Elias’s. But they’re all different enough anyway.

Cellotapedispenser · 18/04/2024 19:43

Biased here as I have one. Love the name. One t for us but either is lovely. Guilty of using the ET voice from time to time Grin

KirstenBlest · 18/04/2024 19:47

I would spell it Elliott, but know an Elliott, Elliot and an Eliot.
Nice name.

I don't like Elijah or Elias much and Eli sounds too 'eel-eye'.

The people I know with the surname Elliot, not all related, spell it that way, not with 2 Ts.

DrJoanAllenby · 18/04/2024 19:52

It's a lovely name.

SwoopingIsBad · 18/04/2024 19:57

It's a great name. Only one Elliot in my DS's school so not very common here.
I'm a huge Elliott Smith fan so I would spell it with 2 Ts

theduchessofspork · 19/04/2024 08:52

It seems to be slightly on the up to me

I think the second t will be a bit of a PITA for him, though I understand it has meaning for you

Clearinguptheclutter · 19/04/2024 08:54

I love it. For me (showing my age) it’s a strong connotation with the film ET.

Elliot is better IMO
I also had Elias on my list. I now know one who is 11 and I think it’s a marvellous, strong, somewhat rare name

shannnxo · 19/04/2024 11:50

Elliott looks better

Theoldwoman · 19/04/2024 13:25

I like it with one T. Less messy.

love Elias.

evtheria · 19/04/2024 13:30

I know an Elliott (and funnily enough, parents are from Seattle!) - always thought it's a great name, it trips off the tongue nicely.

Seaside1234 · 19/04/2024 13:35

My son's called Elliott, and I still love it. We used 2 t's as that's just what looked right to me, but the world does spell it with one t generally if that helps you decide! There was one other boy called it in his primary school, he's now 15 and not sure if there are any others at the high school; it's certainly not that common
