Does Harry's unpopularity affect the name?

Trying to chose a boys name and we like Harry but as Harry and Meghan are not so popular people now, I'm wondering how that will effect the name?

I think that's probably true.

Literally nobody cares in the real world 😂

Harry is a solid name choice.

SabreIsMyFave · 17/04/2024 16:44

Of course not. Agree with pps though, the name 'Harry' IS overdone/overused now.

The current generation of kids will think Harry Styles before Prince Harry.

I wouldn’t have siblings called Harry and Meghan but I’d avoid William and Kate too

“Generic wallpaper name” 🙄

As opposed to all the hideous “ooh I’m trying sooo hard to be different” names that thrive on the Baby Names board.

It’s a lovely name - I couldn’t use it was it had been used in our family very recently but the Prince Harry connection wouldn’t have occurred to me! 😄

Yes. You might as well call your child ‘Boy#476544’.

There's quite an extensive middle ground between Harry, George, Sophie and Olivia and Tiaammi-Nevaeh, Bodhi Bear and the like.

I agree. That's where my mind goes when I hear the name 'Harry.' Harry Styles.

Or Harry Potter

BoohooWoohoo · 17/04/2024 19:52

Or Harry Kane

Longma · 17/04/2024 20:01

He's a disgruntled son/brother, not some evil dictator!
And despite the constant articles of the likes of Daily Mail, etc most people are probably quite ambivalent to him and his family, I don't know more than a couple of people in real life who give any of the stories even a second thought.

The name Harry is an age old name and I can't see if suddenly becoming massively unpopular due to one man with the same name.

It'd be different if it was the name of a current mass serial killer or the leader of a country causing world war three, or similar.

FlyingPizzaMonkey · 17/04/2024 20:23

Harry is such a common name. So many Harry’s!

ScubaDivingSpiderMonkey · 18/04/2024 15:05

Only effects people with Royal Family Derangement Syndrome. Which judging by the number of wacky royal threads on Mumsnet is quite a few people...

LolaSmiles · 18/04/2024 15:12

Even if people have mixed opinions about Prince Harry, most aren't going to make the association between a newborn baby and Prince Harry.
The people who do make the connection and act funny about it aren't going to be rational people.

Yellogreen · 18/04/2024 15:21

I don’t think he’s unpopular other than with the people he’s taking to court

Gorgonemilezola · 18/04/2024 15:28

I'd perhaps assume you'd been a Harry Potter fan as a child but nothing more than that.

HashB · 20/04/2024 10:23

I think it’s fall in popularity now is purely due to major over use in the last 5-10 years, as opposed to anything to do with the prince.

Corinthiana · 20/04/2024 10:28

If you want to call him Harry, go for it.
In a few years Harry and Meghan will be largely irrelevant, so I wouldn't worry about connection to them.
