Have a little boy already and expecting a little girl 🩷
DH and I have went through at least 100 names and agree on very few 😂
Shortlist is
Amelie
Amelia
Olivia

We're both Scottish and I know that Amelie wasn't very popular last year (only about 30 in the whole of Scotland) but wonder about pronunciation and nicknames?
Olivia and Amelia were far more popular.
We do have a one syllable surname as well so needs to flow well with it.

All three of them are lovely names!

Amelie and Amelia are just variations of the same name so I’m not sure it makes a difference

Anyway I like Olivia best, then Amelia and then Amelie. Amelie isn’t awful but it’s faddy and will date, the other two are elegant and have a long history in the UK

My favourite is Amelie - I prefer the sound of it to Amelia, and I like that it’s shorter so less likely to be shortened - the one I know is known by her full name (but Millie would be an obvious option if wanted - or maybe even Amy?) It does get misheard as Emily sometimes though.

Amelia is my second favourite- it has some nice short versions - Milly / Mia / Amie

Olivia is nice too - I just know so many around here that it would put me off.

I'd say Amelie as Am-eh-lee. I like Olivia best.

Of the 3 I like Olivia the best -elegant, Shakespearean classic that unfortunately just happens to be very popular 😢

If your son’s name isn’t popular too, I might go for Amelie instead. It’s a pretty name , which is no longer that trendy/popular now that the remembrance of the hit namesake film has passed.

“Ah- meh - lee” has a much nicer sound than “Ah- meal - yah” which is how Amelia often seems to be pronounced.

I mean they’re all fine but Amelia and Olivia are so popular they’re overused. They’re the kids in our school who are spoken about with their last name to differentiate from the other Amelia’s and Olivia’s. They’re just generic popular names for girls. Including Amelie.

Please know that Amelia means 'absence of limbs' in medical terminology. It also sounds pretty ugly with the 'mealy' noise in the middle. Uh mealy uh. 🤢 How about Amber instead, which is beautiful and far less common?

Where we are Amelie isn't popular at all, it's actually one of the rarer names which I was surprised about. Doesn't even make the top 100 baby names from last year!

Thankyou, I'm a nightmare as don't think anything less than 3 syllables goes.
Amber is a definite no go aswell due to an estranged family member so sort of ruined it 🙈

I think Amelie is pronounced pretty much the same as Emily which is also quite a popular name-and has been for ages, so she'd likely not be the only one. The shortened versions are also popular-Milly/Ammy/Emmy. Doesn't matter though, if you love the names.

I love Amelie - it was on my list too! Much classier and less common than the similar Amelia and Emily. I particularly dislike Amelia as it means absence of limbs so really can’t understand how it got so popular

Olivia is nice, especially Liv/Livvy nicknames but it’s just so overused. In DD’s primary school class alone there were 3 of them

Olivia. Amelia is a condition and Amelie seems dated.

A different pronunciation I have heard is Amuh-leeya which is nice

If you like Olivia, maybe consider Lydia as well?

That would be Amalia, not Amelia. They’re 2 different names
