I met a girl on the beach when I was about 7 and we became best of friends for the day. We didn't speak the same language, she was greek. Her name was Cassiora. I never met her again.

I have looked it up and it's not a 'real' name but I love it. What are your thoughts?

I prefer Cassia personally- but I prefer shorter, simpler names.

PineappleTime · 13/04/2024 07:56

Too fussy. Reminds me of Kia ora.

fieldsofbutterflies · 13/04/2024 07:58

I really don't like it. Sounds like a medication!

Nicebloomers · 13/04/2024 08:00

Prefer Cassia also. Cassiopeia nn Cassia.

Calista is lovely also.

cuckyplunt · 13/04/2024 08:01

It’s a believable name so you’d get away with it. She’d probably end up being Cassie though so why not co with Cassia?
Cassia is a lovely name.

Catlord · 13/04/2024 08:05

I don't love the sound (kind of starts decisively and fizzles out) but the story is lovely and it's fine as a name!

If I were you I might use it is a middle name for a girl in tribute to childhood innocence, happy memories, holidays, sunshine, friendship, all those lovely things

twab · 13/04/2024 09:03

thanks for the feedback. There is a Cassie in the family so I was thinking nn Cory.

Cassia is much nicer, I’d use that

Cassiora is too like Kia ora, and Cory isn’t nice either (and is mostly an American boys name)

fieldsofbutterflies · 13/04/2024 09:21

Cassia is okay but don't pick it based on the nickname Cory - she may hate it and go for something completely different.

Moreteaandchocolate · 13/04/2024 09:28

Cora would be a nicer shortening if you did go for Cassiora, maybe? ( I personally prefer Cora as the full name though)

twab · 13/04/2024 10:17

I do like Cora.
what about Cassieopie?

OP posts:
fieldsofbutterflies · 13/04/2024 10:19

Err...no. That sounds like a type of cake.

Smartiepants79 · 13/04/2024 10:21

Cassiopeia is fine just watch the spelling

OnHerSolidFoundations · 13/04/2024 10:24

Hmmm she might end up being called Cassio 🤷‍♀️

PoppingTomorrow · 13/04/2024 10:27

Cora is lovely.

Calliope?

Laura?

And, I'm not a fan personally but Leonora is another option?

Moreteaandchocolate · 13/04/2024 10:29

twab · 13/04/2024 10:17

I do like Cora.
what about Cassieopie?

Cassieopie will likely be shortened to Cassie though, which you wanted to avoid? I personally find it a bit long and tricky to spell, but just my opinion :)

OSU · 13/04/2024 10:29

Calliope?

Nicebloomers · 13/04/2024 10:44

OSU · 13/04/2024 10:29

Calliope?

This with lovely nn Callie

twab · 13/04/2024 10:50

these are all lovely. I really like the 'ore' sound in Cassiora. My mother's name is Dora, which is just beautiful. Any ideas of similar Cassie/Callie names with that sound?

OP posts:
TheYearOfSmallThings · 13/04/2024 10:53

I wonder if you misheard or misremembered the name? It isn't terrible but it sounds like two names (maybe Rita Ora's little sister Cassie Grin)

OldTinHat · 13/04/2024 10:57

Oooh, I like it!

There again, I was going to name my imaginary daughter Ophelia Guinevere. Fortunately, I had two sons instead who have very traditional names!

Pieceofpurplesky · 13/04/2024 11:11

Call her Dora. It's a beautiful name

twab · 13/04/2024 11:15

I dont want her to have the same name as my mum

OP posts:
Nicebloomers · 13/04/2024 11:29

Callidora- Greek- meaning gift of beauty

Moreteaandchocolate · 13/04/2024 11:34

I can’t think of any that include the Cassie / Callie part as well as the ora part, but here are some names with the “or” sound -

Cordelia
Dorelia (Dora for Short)
Leonora
Alora
Coralia
Aurora
Isadora
Flora
Orla
Aurelia
Elora
