Is Zoe dated?

I've suggested so many names and dh dislikes them all.
He has suggested Zoe which I don't love but could probably live with but is it a bit dated?

No I don't think so, but it's never really been massively popular at any one time to feel tied to a certain era.

I like it and know people of various ages with this name (mid 40s, mid 30s, early 20s, 8 and 4).

Zoe would make a refreshing change these days.

HeadDeskHeadDesk · 09/04/2024 21:58

I'm in my fifties and I think Zoe is pretty timeless. It's always been around for as long as I can remember but it's never been remotely common or over-popular. I've never known a Zoe personally.

Callimanco · 09/04/2024 22:01

I have a Zoë who is 13. She's the only one in her school, but no one thinks it's a weird name or anything.

I think it's beautiful and timeless.

Zoe is timeless.
There is also Zoa.

peaceinourtime · 10/04/2024 15:36

No Zoe is a fine name. I like the nick name Zo from it

theduchessofspork · 11/04/2024 00:33

Not at all

It seems to be getting slightly more popular lately

Lovely name

And Zowie

OnHerSolidFoundations · 11/04/2024 19:03

Or Zooey

bringonyourwreckingball · 12/04/2024 10:49

Biased because I have one (she’s 16) but I love Zoe

pinkmags · 12/04/2024 10:49

PitterPatter3 · 12/04/2024 10:41

It’s very much on the way out if that bothers you. Still a lovely babe though IMHO.

Wow, that is quite a steady decline!

That's strange, it is rising up the name charts. At 21 ish whereas it was around 70 when I named DD in 2010.

AlmondNutbutter · 12/04/2024 11:19

The two I know are in their 40s and 50s. One is lovely, the other is vile! Saying that, it seems a timeless name in the way of Sarah, Anna or Helena.

Nap1983 · 12/04/2024 11:25

Ive a 16 yr old Zoe. Never had another in her class all through school but still a “normal” name. I love it

ladygindiva · 12/04/2024 11:35

I love Zoe. DN aged 1 is a Zoe, lovely underused name. Not dated.

Candleabra · 12/04/2024 11:37

I wouldn’t use it now because of the blood sugar app thing.
Shame as it’s a nice name (same for Alexa)

Sundaysunshine21 · 12/04/2024 11:51

I like it and don’t think it’s dated, I know Zoes of all ages.

I wouldn’t be put off by the blood sugar app. It’s like I wouldn’t be put of Zara or George because of the clothing brands. It’s not a particularly negative connotation.

Agree with others I definitely wouldn’t use Alexa, because Alexa (the Amazon speaker) is so universally known and used by kids. I think also it’s the fact you talk to it and tell it what to do.

pinkmags · 12/04/2024 11:59

Do you mean this:

zoe.com

Or the car? I actually did the Zoë study when my baby Zoë was a newborn lol.

There are many many many brands with human names. No big deal.

SabreIsMyFave · 12/04/2024 12:52

I don't love it and wouldn't use it for a newborn daughter. But it's not me doing it. You @whygrey and your husband must both agree on a name. You can't call your daughter a name HE wants, when you don't like it. And vice versa.

MalibuBarbieDreamHouse · 12/04/2024 17:22

I don’t think Zoe is too dated, it is a nice name, but OP don’t give your daughter a name that you can live with, give her a name that you love. It’s your daughter too!!! You have to give birth!

FlowersInAFlowerBed · 12/04/2024 17:30

I think it's a bit dated if I'm honest but probably because the youngest one I know is late 30s

Where are you getting your data from? In the 2021 ONS stats it was at 116.

Orangexhest · 12/04/2024 20:22

Callimanco · 12/04/2024 19:54

Yeah that’s not accurate stats. They’ve got that list from the Baby Centre which is essentially ‘names our users have told us they’ve used’. So maybe gives an idea of trends, but not accurate data at all. ONS gives true stats based on actual names registered and was last released in 2021.
