Same but Oh-teel.

Sorry, never saw the ie. Same for all three in that case.

Jessbow · 05/04/2024 22:58

Mave
Nay-oh-me, or nayo-me

Ott-illy

Same, though I had a friend called Naomi and it was sometimes pronounced ‘nair-me’. Only one I’ve come across to pronounce it this way though, nay-oh-me is more common.

MassiveOvaryaction · 05/04/2024 23:02

Mayve
I know 3 Naomis. One is Nay-oh-me, one Nye-oh-me and one Nay-me!
Otti-lee

theduchessofspork · 05/04/2024 23:03

mayve

Nay-OH-me (you will get the odd Nye-oh-me by mistake)

ot-TILLY - if you are lucky, but often OTT-il-lee

Talipesmum · 05/04/2024 23:05

Mave
nay-OH-mee, or NAY-oh-mee, or Nay-mee
Ott-illy

Naomi in particular I’ve heard with a variety of emphasis / pronunciation. No idea if there’s a “right or wrong” way - I think different countries pronounce it differently and those options are variously used here. I try and remember how the owner of the name says it.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 05/04/2024 23:08

Mave
Nay-oh-me (but sone people pronounce it nigh-oh-me)
Ottily

Needmorelego · 05/04/2024 23:09

I've always pronounced Maeve as "Meeve" - sounds like I am wrong 🙁 Apologies to any Maeve's reading this.
Naomi - I always said it as "Nay-omi" but the little girl who lives next door is "Nye-omi".
Ottilie - I've never met one. I assume it would be "Ot-tilly 🤔

howdoyou123 · 05/04/2024 23:30

Appreciate your responses. English is not my first language but came across these names and liked them. They may not be wise choices as very confusing pronunciation

OP posts:
Chattywatty · 05/04/2024 23:38

Naomi = Nair-me

InMyTwinMumEra · 06/04/2024 09:16

Think I also pronounce the same as previous posters:

Maeve - May-ve
Naomi - Nay-oh-me or Nye-oh-me (I’ve met people who pronounce it different ways)
Ottilie - Ott-illy

Greybay · 06/04/2024 11:37

Maeve is Mayve.
If written Mave it's to rhyme with cave or Dave, not have, iyswim

Greybay · 06/04/2024 11:38

The Naomi I know says Nye-oh-me.

Soubriquet · 06/04/2024 11:45

Jessbow · 05/04/2024 22:58

Mave
Nay-oh-me, or nayo-me

Ott-illy

Yep

KirstenBlest · 06/04/2024 12:38

Mave
NAY-um-y but some say Nay-O-mi, NIGH-o-mi, Nigh-O-mi, Na-O-mi
OTT-ill-y. Some accents have a glottal stop so it'll be O-ill-ee

polkadotpixie · 06/04/2024 13:24

Mave to rhyme with cave
Ny-oh-mee
Ott-illy

Lalupalina · 06/04/2024 17:31

Ottilie has 3 syllables imo: Ott Tee lee eh

KirstenBlest · 06/04/2024 17:57

@Lalupalina , that's 4.

Where is it pronounced like that? Never heard it like that before! Plus, there isn't an R in it!🤔

Yeah I have a friend who pronounces it like that too, but will also answer to nay-oh-me, which is what most people call her. But she’d introduce herself as nair-me.

possibly it’s the same person me and the other poster are talking about of course 😂

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 06/04/2024 19:38

Mave
nigh-omi
ott-illy
