Is this a bit dull?

Struggling with boys names. The only name we both think is OK is Edward, but we neither of us love it. I am worried it is a little boring staid. What do you think? (Ned for short).

Also, how popular is it?

Edward is lovely
my friend has an Edward and we call him Ted, Teddy, Ned, Neddy, Teddy Bear.....

I know one Eddie ( I run children's groups so know a LOT of children)

I love Ned!

Am not keen on Edward tbh. Think it is very oldfashioned and not what a 15 year old would want to be called.

Ned is cool and travels well through his age I think.

I don't like it myself but it's quite popular atm. I know a few Eddies and Teds.

I also love Ned but not keen on Edward, but you then give him the choice when he's older of what he wants to be called.

I watch the TV prog 'Freaky Eaters' and there is a doctor on there who is very good at her job but is called 'Pixie McKenna' and whenever I hear it I think, 'Oh no. Your mum never thought this through!!'

Not at all it is a very nice names with lots of lovely ways to shorten it.

yes I think it is particularly important for girls to have a sort of "serious" name, not too fluffy, in case they want to be a brain surgeon

Pixie is a sweet enough name but not for a doctor imho.

If she was called Philippa and named Pixie for short then fine, but just to be called Pixie, not fine!

I have an Edward! We call him Ted... I love the fact it is not so common a name
DS1 is called Oliver, which has become quite popular now!

Not overly keen on Edward, but really love all the nn, Teddy, Ned, Ted, so cute.

I love Ted and Edward is nice better a dull name and an exciting child than the other way round imo.

i know 3 Edawrds.. one is 17 and Eddie. one is 4 and ED, the other is about 19 months and is EDWARD.

I prefer Edmund, but that's just me. It still shortens to Ned, Ed, Ted if you want it to.

Edward is a lovely name.

Not a single one in our infants school (200 pupils)

Only one in our Junior School, 300 pupils.

The one I know (who incidentally is a fantastic child!)is known as Ed usually, also Ted, Teddy.

we have a Edward at our toddler group - he is about 9m.

Personally I don't like it but it fits all the criteria as Maloy Towers has pinted out

There are no Edwards that I know - HOWEVER DS1's friend is called Ned, it was the first Ned registered at the local office in the last 30 years whilst the lady has worked there.

Dd would have been an Edward (Ted), it's faboulous, and not too popular.
