Choosing a name for baby number 2 but we don't live in the uk and I'm really out of touch with what's common right now....

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

No it’s not common where I live and not in the top 500 names in the UK- Alyssia is the most common spelling of the two you mentioned. The name Alicia is slightly more common, but still outside the top 300 (although that has a couple of different pronunciations I think).

CCLCECSC · 24/03/2024 07:20

No not common; know of 2 but both spelt differently. One is 2y; the other 38y!

theduchessofspork · 24/03/2024 16:28

No, the usual spelling is Alicia though

jenjenjenjenjena · 24/03/2024 16:43

I know 3 Alicias

GreyhoundGal1 · 24/03/2024 16:43

Slightly out of date as we're still waiting on 2022 names, but you can check the general trend/popularity here for England and Wales: https://names.darkgreener.com/#alyssia

Alyssia: 62 in 2021
Alissia: 26 in 2021
Alicia: 136 in 2021

So no not super popular but a lovely name :)

I know a 50odd year old Alicia (same pronunciation) but nobody younger.

Wouldn't that be Aleesha rather than Alissia?

Alicia is normally pronounced Alice-ee-ah/uh.

There is also Alyssa as an option. And no its not particularly common.

ScrabbleUnoDobble · 24/03/2024 17:49

Aleesha is the American pronunciation.

Alicia in England (not sure about the rest of the UK) is usually pronounced A-liss-ee-uh.

There is also another pronunciation of A-lee-see-uh, which is how Alicia Silverstone pronounces her name.

ZenNudist · 24/03/2024 19:04

Neither spelling is nice. Sounds like you don't know how to spell Alicia which is indeed a fab name. Don't sadle her with a lifetime of telling people how to spell it. Alicia is lovely as it is.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 24/03/2024 19:09

My son (9) has an Alicia, an Alicja and an Elisa in his class, but I haven't seen the spellings you are using.

Ah ok, fair enough! I've only ever met one Alicia and she pronounced it Aleesha so I assumed that was the correct way! My bad 😊

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 24/03/2024 21:25

I like Alicia but never seen it spelled otherwise.

Sundaysunshine21 · 26/03/2024 22:39

It’s nice, and I don’t think very popular at the moment.

sadierussell2 · 29/03/2024 21:18

Alyssa and Alicia more common

VenusClapTrap · 29/03/2024 22:53

I know an Alessia. I don’t think she’s ever come across another.

OldMrsHempstock · 30/03/2024 00:02

I know an Alissa and an Elyssia, both aged around 8. So no, I don't think it's overused at all. Lovely names.
