Middle name for Jonah…

Looking for any suggestions for a middle name for Jonah - we tend to like longer middle names that are 3 plus syllables but the only two longer names on our list at the minute are Jonah Theodore or Jonah Gabriel. DH also suggested Jonah Jude which I’m not totally against and I quite like the alliteration - but I just keep thinking a longer name will sound better.

Does anyone have any other suggestions that could work? ☺️

@MaloneMeadow Thats a bit harsh. I don’t believe in superstition. To me when I heard the name my immediate thought was the saying “He’s a Jonah.” in a negative context. Was just giving op the heads up in case it affected her decision. If she’s ok with that there is no issue.

Somehow I've managd to get through 4 decades of my life never hearing this weird phrase/insult.

2 decades of those teaching...kids are cruel and if they can make fun they will.
Never once has that insult been used amongst the 1000s of teenagers I've taught and I've known/taught/worked with a fair few Jonahs. It's seen as quite a "cool" name.

It's not a common put down these days (if it ever was?!). Very silly reason to discredit and attempt to put OP off a great name.

Well maybe they’re not aware. I’d never want my child to have a name associated with bad luck, would you?

You could say something negative about literally any name ever. If you tell me your name, of the names of any of your loved ones, i could in 2 mins on google find a war criminal or molester or some awful connotation of that name.

But i wouldn’t do that. Because it’s not kind. And because you didn’t ask. And it’s not nice to give uninvited opinions on people’s name choices is it?

Jonah Alexander
Jonah Benjamin
Jonah William

@MyLemonBee Bit of an overreaction !! Just pointing out the connotation that comes with that name. You don’t need to gatekeep the thread.

@SoOutingWhoCares I couldn’t give a flying fig what the op calls her child, I don’t know her and neither do you. I’m not trying to discredit anyone just merely let her know in case it makes a difference. If it doesn’t , what’s the problem? I’d rather be aware. I’ve heard the expression hence me flagging it. I wouldn’t say it someone I met named Jonah but as op is thinking of names, now’s the time to check it out.

I like Jonah Dominic. If you choose Jude or any other J middle name be prepared for the possibility he ends up being called JJ as a nickname.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 05/03/2024 22:22

@Wrongsideofpennines mine has never been called JJ or any shortening of Jonah. No one knows his middle name anyway, so although you say it's a possibility... it is unlikely.

Wrongsideofpennines · 05/03/2024 22:34

@ThisMustBeMyDream Maybe it was a nickname of an era then, as I knew JJs at both school and uni because of their middle names, alhough neither were Jonahs.

JanuaryJeepers · 05/03/2024 22:56

Jonah Jeremiah

Love Jonah. It only seems to be older people who say that weird thing about the superstition. I love the Bible story and the meaning of the name 'dove', it was on my list for my ds. I love Jonah Edward or Jonah William. Jonah Jude is cute too.

Not gatekeeping just pointing out basic manners. In case you’d want to be informed 😉

I also like the nickname JJ! Much prefer it to the ubiquitous Jo/Joe/Joey.

@MyLemonBee Ic you come on MN asking opinions on names, you have to take all opinions . If you’re sensitive to opinions, don’t do it. Did I say her choice was awful? No I did not. I pointed out a possible negative connotation that she may not be aware of so I think you can step down now.

Mumof1andacat · 06/03/2024 17:37

Jonha Nicholas
Jonha George
Jonha James

ohmyohmy123 · 24/03/2024 21:52

Depends on your surname

Jonah Joel is unusual - James seems to be very popular as a middle name.

SnowFrogJelly · 25/03/2024 00:48

Edward
James
