Boys names for surname Grant

Polkalot · 29/02/2024 13:48

We found out we are having a boy, we had a number of girls names chosen but have struggled to find many boys names we like. We prefer more traditional names.

Baby’s last name will be Grant.

So far, the only two names we like enough are Oliver and Charlie. We also quite like Freddie but prefer the other two names. What do you think of the names?

Also open to suggestions!

I like Oliver.

Some suggestions:

Caleb Grant
Lucas Grant
Thomas Grant
Hamish Grant
Angus Grant
Leo Grant

Bluegetaniums · 29/02/2024 14:03

With a popular surname like Grant, I'd choose a less common first name, as it can cause a lot of confusion including identity theft.

How about

Marcus Grant
Quentin Grant
Xavier Grant
Dominic Grant

Bluegetaniums · 29/02/2024 14:17

Oliver, Charlie and Freddie are soo overused and dull imo. Are there no other names you like?

waltzingparrot · 29/02/2024 14:21

I do like a double letter name so

Gabriel Grant
George Grant

Mumofgirls2017 · 29/02/2024 14:23

Santasbigredbobblehat · 29/02/2024 14:27

Dominic Grant sounds excellent.

FayCarew · 29/02/2024 14:28

But Dom Grant doesn't.

TheBayLady · 29/02/2024 14:34

I had a lovely little boy in my class called Adam Grant, he had a brother called Noah. Congratulations, enjoy choosing a name.

Onelife2024 · 29/02/2024 14:37

Love all 3 of your name choices! Oliver is particularly overused so I’d personally avoid that one. Charlie would be my pick.

ideas -

Sebastian
Zachary
Alexander
Toby
Stanley
Oscar
Isaac
Eli / Elijah
Louis
Harry

Polkalot · 29/02/2024 14:50

Thank you for your suggestions! I do also like Joshua, Liam and Harry but my partner isn’t convinced.

I personally don’t think the names are dull @Bluegetaniums, I much prefer names like Charlie, Oliver etc to names that are considered modern and unique. Each to their own!

Oliver and Charlie are both fabulous OP. I don't think you can go wrong with either but Oliver slightly edges it for me.

Quentin on the other hand is fucking hideous IMO!

Bluegetaniums · 29/02/2024 15:03

Thankfully we all have different tastes Smile.

Appletoe · 29/02/2024 15:03

Oliver Grant sounds great! Grant is quite a strong surname, so a more vowely first name fits well. I wouldn’t worry too much about popularity, popularity is nothing like it used to be. Oliver is 2 in the charts but that’s about 0.7% babies. It used to be triple that or more with the most popular names.

I know a Quentin Grant, he is a nice bloke.😀

Oliver is 2 in the charts but that’s about 0.7% babies.

But multiply that by the number of years that Oliver has been number 1 or 2 for the past 10 years or so and you'll end up with A LOT of Olivers.

Perhaps the op doesn't mind, but as she's asking on a baby name forum, she may well like to hear others' opinions.

Yes but still nothing remotely close to names that were popular in the past. They were also popular for many many years. Look at names like David and Michael for instance, over 50 years with over 1% (up to 4% in David’s case!). Names are nothing like as popular as they used to be.

@takemeawayagain , I don't like Quentin either.

Oliver and Charlie are both nice. I only know a few of them and they are different ages. Oliver goes better with the surname.

With popular first names, the surname is likely to always be used.

Give a less common middle name. Not James.

Retrievemysanity · 29/02/2024 15:44

Oliver is nice. My friend with surname Grant has an Ethan.

CloudPop · 29/02/2024 15:44

James

FortunataTagnips · 29/02/2024 16:20

Bernie

Notlongtogo2 · 29/02/2024 16:34

I’ve just named my baby boy Oliver and think it sounds perfect with your surname!
How about Alexander, Christopher or Nicholas?
