Is the baby name Dexter going to be too popular after One Day?

We had semi-decided on the name Dexter for our DS (who is now 1 week overdue) and the Netflix adaption of One Day cemented it for me (loved the nn Dex) but part of me is also worried that it’s going to become stupidly popular now for the same reason. I don’t want him to become one of 5 Dexters in his school year for example - there’s 90 kids a year in our local school.

what do you think?

I do like it though and I think if you love it, it shouldn't put you off😊 there was a Dexter spate a few years back but perhaps ots gone quiet now xx

Yeah maybe. We also liked Jasper but that is really having its renaissance era right now so hoping there won’t be quite as many Dexter’s as Jaspers 😂 my older DD is called Xander so I like the X association.

One of my sons has a very common name for his age /generation not that I realised when name was chosen. Can honestly say there was only one other boy in his primary school with the name and he never had any friends at secondary school with his name. Name as popular as Oli,Tom etc .

DS has the 4th most popular name for his birth year and out of 90 kids there are no others in his year.

But there are two kids with repeat names in my other DS's class, let alone year.

Unfortunately not something you can control. You could pick something super unique and someone else might call their child the same thing. I really wouldn't worry about it

Yes there are two repeat names in dc’s year group. One of the names is about 50 in the charts, the other name 3 children have and it wasn’t even top 100 their year of birth. Whereas there is only one Oliver etc.

Yes same with my DS - he has a top 5 name but is the only one in his school. Yet there are two boys with the same name from outside the top 50 in his class!

One of mine has a top 5 name and is the only one in the year. Yet we have multiples of several other names.

My friend married a guy called Dexter 30 years ago. The name has been around for years now.
